The best Schmeling fights the best heavyweight Moore. Who you got?

Prime Schmeling is ahead of Archie's skis as a heavyweight but Max will know he's been in a scrap.

I’m not going to be too hasty to choose a winner. I can see why other posters have picked Schmeling ( and I agree to an extent ) but I think Moore had the ability to make this a very close fight and MAYBE even win it. Still undecided though

I can't call it. They seem evenly matched in many ways

Except for one shot against Marciano that he ultimately couldn't follow up on, Archie simply was ahead of his skis against really quality heavyweights. Schmeling was a quality heavyweight. Again, I think Moore would give him a scrap, and Moore winning is not a completely out in the ozone idea, but I still think Max takes him.

I'm just not sure on who would win. Moore at heavyweight only lost to the best of the best. He lost to Marciano, Patterson a young Cassius Clay (when he was near 50 years old).

Both are good veterans but I had Archie better on experience,in defense, there's not much for Schmeling to exploit, plus the fact that Archie were mostly only beat by slicker dudes at his prime days(adding salt to injury as Max Schmeling wasn't that good of a mover either),I like Archie by ko or decision in here.

Moore takes that counter right away from Schmeling with that cross armed defence and getting low, Moore could maybe be caught by a good upper cutter, but the straight right is completely nullified with the way Moore defends.
Once Moore has taken that away, what does Schmeling really have over Moore? Moore is more skilled on the inside, and is much better in a jab fest, he’d do that crouch to the right and spring up with the jab and crouch again with the cross armed defence to block and take away Schmeling’s straight right and would counter that with body shots and overhands.

Max is pretty sneaky with those straights though, he knew how to time them and wait for the opportunity to let them loose. In those early rounds against Louis he also struggled finding home with his right but he ended up doing it eventually. And I think Moore will feel the effect of those few rights that do get in, I see Max landing more and more as the fight goes on.

My man Max at his prime is a cerebral fighter with good counterpunching skills. If he was able to frustrate and beat Louis, sure he can beat Archie.

But again, Archie is a very live dog,a skilled technician with very good defence and a big bag of tricks.

I would favor Max 60 - 40 or maybe 70 - 30; but Archie won't go down easily and Max will have to make some heavy lifting to win.

I like Archie to dice him up ... too fast and clever and Max was no giant himself ....
