Some here may have noticed that Gareth is promoting this book that he contributed a number of essays to.
The book is £69.95. It's being promoted as a great christmas present. Anyone here planning to buy it?

No opinion really but I do struggle to trust him as a pundit as he has never done the thing he’s punditing on. Amplified by the poshest of poshest voices. Fair enough writing for papers etc but I think in the thick of the action it should be left to the ex pros.

Whenever I see/hear him now all I can picture is him pretending to kick Froch. You know in his head he thought he looked great but in reality he looked like the slow, cumbersome, stiff arl man he is haha.

His accent isn’t that posh. Adam Smith hasn’t done it either and his accent is comparably posh. He had the voice but like many commentators was just so ridiculously biased. I think Davies is quite easy going and doesn’t take himself too seriously. I wouldn’t buy the book because of the price and there will be nothing in it I’ve not read or heard before.

Really? I’ve not heard anyone say that before. Is there something in particular you don’t like?

He is the last of the old school journalists still doing it and to be fair he has done well to stay relevant. He has made some shocking comments over the years though.

Yes, Smith is a commentator though not a pundit, that’s fine for me just not the expert analysis. As I said I don’t mind him.

Not that posh!? Kinell mate where are you from haha?

Why should a pundit have boxed but not a commentator? They're both talking about boxing. Surely a commentator would be better off having boxed if that's your stance. For me it doesn't really matter at all. Most of these ex-boxers talk a load of rubbish. I don't mind listening to Jeff Powell and Colin Hart, for instance. I think they give better interviews than the likes of Jonny Nelson who is an absolute prat. His interview after Joshua was splattered was genuinely embarrassing. I think the punditry is more sloppy these days. Davies is a massive kiss arse but it seems to have done him no harm given that he's apparently very well off. It's the same with trainers. Some talk rubbish and others are better. I prefer Joe Gallagher and Dominic Ingle to most of them. James Ali Bashir talks a load of crap and so do a lot of the American trainers. Others like Billy Nelson are hit and miss.

He does sound posh but it's not the poshest on a scale of Ricky Hatton to Jacob Rees-Mogg.

Same reason football commentators are there for their good voices and eloquence but need a respected ex pro next to them to disect the minor details. Of course it would be better if the commentator has boxed, but it’s not necessary. There are always anomalies such as Enzo Calzaghe but having done things over and over hives you far more credibility. The pundit there for expertise however, should certainly know his way around a professional ring.

THE GAD is a breath of fresh air. I would much prefer hearing him talk than FROCK who would lack the self control to not insert his dead attendance joke. The only fighter i can tolerate listening to is Fabio Wardley.
