For one thing, I think Mike was well aware that he couldn’t take it on the chin like he used to - that self knowledge will curtail your efforts.

As to general age deterioration, note the way Roy Jones Jr hobbles, both his knees are apparently gone.

With equal handicapping, perhaps a Tyson-Jones rematch is in order? Of course, I am kidding.

“This is one of those situations when you lost but still won. I’m grateful for last night. No regrets to get in ring one last time.

I almost died in June. Had 8 blood transfusions. Lost half my blood and 25lbs in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight so I won.

To have my children see me stand toe to toe and finish 8 rounds with a talented fighter half my age in front of a packed Dallas Cowboy stadium is an experience that no man has the right to ask for. Thank you.”

    Paul’s response:

“Love you Mike. It was an honor. You’re an inspiration to us all.”

Honestly, after roughly 17 hours of reflection on the events of last night … did it do the sport of boxing and its heritage, history, image and traditions any good? No. Is it the most microscopic pimple on the arse of the things that have been detrimental to the sport of boxing and its heritage, history, image and traditions over the last 140 years or so? Yes.

Having played football (football ⚽️) since I was a young boy, i can verify that after 45 or so, the body exponentially loses athletic capacity. At 50 you are 40% of prime, by 60 I would guess you are less than 20%, possibly less. That is based on me continuing to play my entire life. Tyson hasn't boxed professionally for decades.

He may have been injured, but had he bit 100%, everyone would still notice the huge decline.

Reflexes are gone. His brain was telling his arms to throw punches but by the time his arm heard the order Paul had moved away.

"I couldn't get off". Yep, age and brain issues.

Tyson was a destroyer in his prime, but he was almost 60 going into this fight on November 15, 2024.

It was all just a cash-grab, knowing people wanted to see the mighty Mike fight one more time! (Though he was unable to do much actual "fighting"). It was even kind of depressingly sad...

I,d say more injury. His upper body still works. Looks like his legs or more likely knees are pretty much injured/wrecked by the looks of it.

Doesnt matter who you are....your legs are the most important thing in boxing. You cant operate in a boxing ring without functioning legs.

Imo, Berbick would have wrecked him all them years ago....if tyson fought with that same knee injury.

Ashame because i think tysons still mentally sharp his brains not injured. Hes always been awkward. His speed is still incredibly quick for a 58 year old man. The powers still there. You just cant fight in a boxing ring without fully functioning knees regardless of your age.

It pretty much finished his career the first time round.

Think hes mentioned the recent health scare today as being more severe as people thought. Regardless even if he didnt suffer that. The knee alone would have stopping him functioning even if he,d kept himself in top physical shape from the day he retired.
