I thought Serrano won but the commentators were trying to call a wider fight than it actually was. Great fight and both ladies are as tough as old boots. But the persistent head work from Taylor?…NO, that’s a real detraction from her otherwise excellent game. And the effect of the cut on Serrano caused in the first instance by a butt can’t be dismissed.
My point exactly, they both actually suck, and if men fought exactly as they do - they would not be top level fighters. Only here would people complain about Taylor literally falling forward as she punches and causing head butts, because Serrano sucks just as much and lacks the ability to do anything about an opponent making such a fundamental mistake over and over… Lol @Mark Anthony ”because she was smothering her” Good fighters know how to punch effectively on the inside, make angles, create space, MOVE THEIR HEAD OUT OF THE MIDDLE - OR HAVE THEIR HANDS IN FRONT OF IT… ….and again, Taylor is literally getting off balance nearly falling forward she leans so far, it isn’t some dirty or effective spoiling strategy, it’s just sucky technique. She’s incredibly athletically gifted and (fighting women), so she gets away with it… This is not the same as Holyfield dipping down and coming up with his dome with the force of his legs…
I agree with this and commend the ladies - but the skill gap between women and men is clear - especially when seeing the absolute best the ladies have to offer.
A lot of people don't like seeing two fighters held to different standards. Bet your bottom dollar if Taylor was getting sliced up by her opponent's head there would have been more warnings and points taken, or if she was landing the power shots that Serrano did then she would have won 7 or 8 rounds.
It was a close fight in that neither fighter really dominated, however, there were several factors that would go for a Cerrano decision: 1. She hurt Katie once badly in the first round and was doing more damage 2. Katie was fouling and holding the entire fight 3. The 1 point deduction I didn't score the fight but for consistent damage and boxing ability, you'd have to choose Cerrano without a doubt. To choose Katie is possible if you gave her every benefit of doubt.
Taylor is a warrior - credit where credit is due - but she could easily be 0-2 against Serrano. I sure had her winning the first fight.
Is it disgraceful by the original poster, or the fact that it may be true that boxers get decisions because of their popularity?
Your handle is very accurate, not talking about the Kiwi part. Serrano was at least as accurate as Taylor, if not more so. She was trying to hit Taylor as she was ploughing forward with her head into Serrano's chin and head. If Serrano had Loma's footwork she might have been able to step aside or throw a check hook, however, Taylor was ducking and then grabbing as Serrano tried to throw, so she was able to get inside and lean and hold. Extremely difficult to land but she kept trying.
Can we at least agree that had they stood at boxing range without allowing Taylor to hug and lean in, Cerrano would have dominated or knocked Taylor out? If not, then let's end this polarising thread.
I actually did watch it you moron, she charged in with her head and changed the fight, Serrano was in control and had too much power, Taylor is a cheat.
Katie Taylor Gets respect sure. However Make no mistake, Serrano is the People champ, loved & respected more by the boxing faithful. Deal with it. they should run it back one last time to see if Amanda can get a Marquez vs Paquiao 4 KO Vindication.
Starting personal eh? Your name reflect your dating app preference? Serrano wasn't very accurate at all considering volume of punches thrown. Her lacking the ability to fight properly up close isn't Taylors problem, and let to Serrano losing the fight.
