Some fights I scored from tonight's card I recommend watching Barrios vs Ramos and Taylor vs Serrano great fights.

    Barrios vs Ramos

    1 Barrios
    2 Barrios 10-8
    3 Ramos
    4 Ramos
    5 Ramos
    6 Ramos 10-8
    7 Ramos
    8 Ramos
    9 Ramos
    10 Barrios
    11 Ramos
    12 Barrios

    115-111 Ramos

    Taylor vs Serrano 2

    1 Serrano
    2 Taylor
    3 Serrano
    4 Serrano
    5 Taylor
    6 Taylor
    7 Serrano
    8 9-9 point deduction
    9 Taylor
    10 Taylor

    95-94 Taylor

Both fights were very exciting wars and very debatable decisions I recommend scoring both.

Juan Lazcano v Manuel Garnica (10 rounds)

I checked this fight out today only because I was always a big fan of Lazcano's. Wish I hadn't. A totally flat performance by Lazcano against a guy who fought like an eel the way he squirmed, moved, flurried, ducked, dodged and used the ring. Garnica lacked a punch but, IMO, came with a game plan, enacted said plan and deserved the decision. However, the 2 El Paso judges thought otherwise, apparently having mailed in their scorecards a week earlier. I gave Lazcano a share of the 2nd round and gave him the 10th - the only round he showed any urgency in - for a 99-92 score for Garnica (actual cards: 96-94 for Garnica from the neutral judge and 98-92, 97-93 for Lazcano from the 2 El Paso judges). I would not recommend this fight. In fact, the only real action, ironically enough, came after the bell in the 10th round, which ended the fight. The two continued swinging from the fences at each other and then began head-butting each other when the ref and the corners contained both of them but left them within head-butt range of each other. Lazcano should have showed this effort 10 rounds earlier.

Thanks. No idea. I didn't talk to or know Raging Bull outside of the forum. Are there any other boxing message boards still up that aren't a ghost town? I do remember he was posting on ****** around the time I lost interest in the sport.

For some reason, Chequehoooook-boxing has been censored.

I cameback a while ago and it´s fun here, HW talk is 90% of the discussions and it´s slow compared with 10 years ago but it´s still good. All the other forums died out. It would be very useful your knowledge in the lighter divisions...

Unfortunately, you are 100% correct. I was hoping for something slightly more. At least some of the prelims were decent enough.

Jose Palacios v Pipino Cuevas (Mexican welterweight title)

I saw this fight out there and I really didn't know what to expect. I had seen Palacios twice before and felt he was dogged but absolutely no pop in his punches. And Cuevas for that matter, was about 17 here and 3 fights away from his (undeserved) title fight with Angel Espada. Although Cuevas held his hands correctly and not amateurish, he was a bit away from being polished. Still, nothing that Palacios could throw was going to bother him and the thump in his punches told the story throughout. I could only give Palacios a share of rounds 6 and 8 with Cuevas leading 90-83 going into the 10th where he really started to bludgeon Palacios before Cuevas dropped him and his corner stopped it mercifully. Not a great fight, but I had to see it.

Vicente Saldivar vs Ismael Laguna(FW Non Title Match)
Review:this fight was very close,I had Saldivar outlanding Laguna but it's obvious that Laguna landed the better punches,I don't complain at the decision, Saldivar's aggression may have been more convincing to the judges, but if this fight continue for 2/5 more rounds,I believe Saldivar edges a clearer decision.

I think that fight with Laguna ( very big at the weight and still growing) is one that showed that as absolutely great as he was, Saldivar was not the sort of boxer-puncher that was going to be well suited to trying to move up in weight as far as the next traditional weight class during same day weigh-in era.

Johnny Tapia v Ricardo Vargas (super flyweight title)

    Round 1: 10-9 Vargas
    Round 2: 10-10 Even
    Round 2: 10-9 Tapia
    Round 4: 10-9 Tapia
    Round 5: 10-9 Vargas
    Round 6: 10-8 Tapia (scores a knockdown)
    Round 7: 10-9 Vargas
Round 8: The bout is stopped shortly into the 8th round when a cut sustained by Vargas from an accidental 7th round head collision caused the fight to be stopped and scored through 7 completed rounds.

Total: 67-66 Tapia (actual scores: 66-66, 66-66 and a 68-64 for Tapia for a technical draw)

Guys, let me tell ya, I loved this fight. Wish it would have gone on because it's rare to see two fighters trading hard, clean blows at the rate they were throwing them. I was sort of tired when I started watching this, but man, did I perk up. What a fight!. Sort of reminded me of the Paul Hodkinson v Goyo Vargas fight for clean, hard punching.

I did not see this particular fight - but I enjoyed watching Vargas even up at Bantamweight, later in his career. Very crafty fighter who could box as well as fight. He was around world level for good 10 years and certainly could've won a title with right opportunity.

M, I definitely recommend this fight for you. Just beautiful give and take, and believe me, this fight was completely up in the air as to who was going to take it. I should also mention that butt didn't leave Johnny unscathed. I think he was cut in the scalp and was leaking like a sieve, not to mention a nasty mouse under his left eye after the first or second round. These two knew they were in a fight.

I watched Gerrie Coetzee's final career win, from early 1997 against Dan Kosmicki (Remember him?) Gerrie was 41 years old here and looked every bit of his years.
