Fury is clearly shot, his performance against UFC Ngannou was hilarious, he spent 3 years out of the ring, ballooning up to 28 STONE and is a former alcoholic and drug addict that lives a terrible life inbetween fights.

On the other hand, the consummate professional Olexsander Usyk is coming fresh off the best win streak of his entire career (Joshua Joshua Dubois Fury).

If a shot to **** Fury was able to end the Usyk era, like he did the Wilder era, like he did the Klitschko era, then where would this shot to **** Fury rank historically?

Usyk is a bit past it toO, so premise does not make sense.

This is one of those situations where if Fury won and they had a rubber, both would jump in all-time ratings, just like Ali-Frazier, Louis-Schmeling, Leonard-Duran, etc.

But Usyk is going to win again, and Fury off to the consolation prize with Joshua.

I think people equate Usyk slowing down simply due to him being over 20lbs heavier than his cruiserweight days. It's common sense that someone 20lbs heavier is going to be slightly slower with his hands and feet.

Do people think Usyk was on the slide against Derek Chisora because of how he looked in that fight? He obviously wasnt, because his 4 best career wins have followed in succession in taking out the 3 best heavyweights in the division in Joshua, Dubois, Fury. Now imagine what people would say if that exact Chisora fight came now, they would use that Chisora fight as evidence that Usyk was on the slide.

The truth is that Usyk is showing no signs at all that hes on the slide, any difference is down to the fact that hes fighting over 20lbs heavier and for the 1st time in his entire career he is now facing opponents that are not the same weight he is, hes now facing opponents who are 30-50lbs heavier than he is, that hit him harder than hes ever been hit and who tire him out much more with the huge weight differences in clinches.

The truth is that this is still very much peak Usyk, on the best run of his career, a legend of the game, who is now better adjusted to the weight, who lived his career like a model pro, in combination with a vast experience of how to get the job done.

Usyk is not in his prime, his prime ended with the first AJ fight for me or thereabouts.

He is still remarkably good, and probably at 90% of his prime but definitely a tad slower with his hands and feet than he used to be.

Which is interesting because I thought Usyk looked far sharper in the Dubois and Fury fights than he did in the Usyk/Chisora fight, yet the Chisora fight was before the Joshua fights

It would be his second generational win, third if you count Wilder which I'd say is a bit borderline, I think it would make him great - he'd be a great heavyweight. Usyk is in a similar spot.

Might be a bit of a conspiracy theory but I don't think Usyk wantd to show us his best at HW in that fight, to not scare off top opposition + he broke both his hands in the Chisora fight, early on

A fighter can be 'past it', like people are saying Usyk is. But the true sign of an elite legendary boxer is one that adapts to their decline and maintains their status. Usyk is doing exactly this

His legs aren't what they once were and I prefer the the the Uncle Peter version of Fury but I wouldn't say he was totally shot.. he looked really good last time out he just lost to an exceptional fighter.. I don't put much stock in the Ngannou performance .. I don't think he took it seriously .. look at the shape he was in.. and he got a bit of a rude Awakening for it .. the Joshua Joshua Ngannou fight showed where Francis is really at at the highest levels of boxing. I don't think Joshua is better than Fury do you? The guy just got obliterated by Dubois... if anything Usyk is at the tipping point.. he's 38 next time round.. look at the likes of Holyfield, Lewis, Wladimir etc at 37.. they were fading.. their performances were becoming more questionable... regardless of who wins this next fight I think both of them are Hall of Fame HWs.. but if they do go 1-1 with each other & Fury does get a W over Usyk then just like Usyk hed cemented an ATG legacy. Not just a HOF one. Even though these guys get their s*** I think we should appreciate them while they are around.. because they are not going to be around for much longer and from what i can see the heavyweight division is going to take a serious dip afterwards.. i mean Anderson just got obliterated & im not sold on any of the up & comers... this has really been a very solid HW era.. Usyk, Fury, Joshua, Zhang, Parker, Wilder, Dubois, Whyte, Chisora, Joyce, Bakole etc.. there's nothing close to that coming on the horizon at HW yet, if ever again..

Sorry to be a douche, but this question sounds "fan boyish"to me. You post as if it's obvious. Fury has always had ups and downs in fights. He tends to fight to the level of his comp. Nobody thought he looked "shot" in the 1st 4-5 rounds v Usyk. He was absolutely boxing the brakes off of Usyk. Usyk proved however to be the more disciplined and focused of the 2 and c are back and won the fight. Let's be completely honest, as a Fury fan myself, he's truly never fought great competition, and he finally got in their w/ a guy with great ring IQ who could match him in intelligence, adaptability, etc. and he lost. I think you discredit Usyk w/ this thread. Fury has every physical advantage in the book and Usyk beat him. Plain & simple. Don't short change him b/c you're a bigger fan of Fury. Again, sorry to be a D bag but this thread is fan boyish at best IMO.

Go watch Usyk vs Briedis and Gassiev, then come back to me, he's CLEARLY declined!

He was over 20lbs lighter, fighting men of equal size.

He's now fighting 20lbs heavier, fighting men who are 30 to 50 lbs heavier than him, who are taller, hit harder, and lean on him draining his energy in clinches.

To think Usyk could look as technically perfect at heavyweight as he does at cruiserweight is just bonkers.

    Chisora X3
    Cunningham
    Wladimir
    Wilder X2 or X3
    Whyte

And let's say he beats Usyk twice making it 2-1 establishing his dominance over this era.

That wouldn't be enough to surpass Lennox Lewis as the best British Heavyweight of all time. Lennox dominated the past, present and future of heavyweight boxing in his reign. Bowe fight didn't happen but it didn't hurt his achievements. The Joshua fight would have helped make a better case for Fury.

Fury has/had the potential to surpass Lennox to become the best British Heavyweight of all time. If Fury goes on to add Usyk and then Dubois to his wins... then he has a strong valid argument for being Britain's best heavyweight of all time.
