I'm seeing a lot of people (rightfully) denigrate the quality of the main event but then in the next breath say Taylor vs. Serrano II was "the real fight of the night".

Umm...am I missing something? Besides the several rounds I couldn't see due to Netflix glitching, that is. :sisi1

From the few rounds that worked for me, it didn't look all that different from their first match - which is to say good, but nowhere CLOSE to as good as Barrios vs. Ramos, which to me was the clear FOTN.

Ramos got the shaft in no doubt the potential FOTY and Amanda same case. I think the headbutts and skin tag hanging off her face really left this one in the history books. Her gash, the eye, was horrible and her face was a crimson mask as Good Ole JR was say so yeah it was also very special with more visible and visual impacts on the combatants

Amanda never said a word and even hugged Katie - that was her trainer who was very vocal.

I have to disagree. Ok, I don't have to but I'm gonna. Ramos - Barrios was certainly a high quality fight but Serrano - Taylor had more consistent action, better exchanges and was more entertaining and exciting. You said it didn't look all that different from the first fight. Thankfully, you're absolutely right. Their first bout was also fantastic.

Barrios-Ramos was a great fight, but Taylor-Serrano stole the show for me as well. It was a ladies night.

I’m saying Jake Paul would beat Dustin ‘The Worm’ Nichols easily. Ie the same level of opponent Wilder was fighting when he was 10, 20 fights in.

Many years ago YouTube used to use big mainstream concerts (McCartney, Madonna, U2) to prove their scaling was working, as they moved from on-demand to live events. I've no doubt Netflix conducted their biggest-ever user test on Friday night and learned a lot from it. The complaints about people not getting signed in, will soon pass.

Tyson has been abusing drugs for the last 30 years or so and hasn't taken physical training seriously for about the same amount of time. Was it ever really going to be any different for him in there? The saddest thing for me was seeing the energy in him wither away in the day before the fight when the realisation must have hit him that he was going to have to climb into the ring. His ring walk and demeanour was like a man walking to the gallows.

Of course sport at the highest or even medium levels is out for us oldies (especially Boxing for chrissakes) but we can still make a dent in some cases.

My workplace organised a so called cross fit workout challenge session and wanted 30 people to sign up. I think I was the oldest by at least 25 years. I heard some of them giggling behind my back when I turned up at the gym and we all had to sign a disclosure form for the gym and the limit was 50 yrs of age. I was 56 at the time but of course I signed as 49.

The giggles stopped when I took off my shirt in the changing room.

The events were a typical round robin of tire tossing, pull ups, sled pushing, sprints, log press with no let up, 2 minutes on and change at the whistle. After the warm up the physical trainers (all ex special forces) paired us all up and put me against the guy who organised the event and who is the regular at these sessions. These trainers knew a fellow vet when they saw one and as I was sipping some water before the start 2 of them came over and whispered in my ear something like "Do all of us a favour and destroy these soft civvy ****ers"

Now, I have never done a modern cross fit training session, but as it turns out it is exactly like the old circuit training sessions I did in the military for decades - who knew? :)

It wasn't even close. I was nowhere near the dynamo I was 25 years ago of course but my strength and fitness far exceeded what these young pups could muster. One thing struck me, I had time to look around at the other pairings and there was very little camaraderie, no mutual encouragement or any real energy in the room - that made me sad.

I wouldn't do it again though, when my blood is up I am recklessly competitive and my body was bouncing against the red line quite a few times in the session. These days I like to approach the red line only occasionally and only then to give the briefest of hellos.

But Boxing? are you ****ing insane? I left that behind decades ago and wisely so.

It wasn't a particularly successful debut in terms of commentators and pundits, but one thing made me really happy when Netflix announced that this was the first of a long series of big boxing nights.

Netflix is a huge platform with enormous economic resources and if they are willing to invest some of their money in boxing then I am happy ! :)

I would be very surprised if the entire 16 minutes of the 'fight' between Paul and Tyson was not fully rehearsed.

It was virtually a low contact footwork sparring session.

Glad I never wasted time staying up to watch that shyte.

    I didn't stay up :)

I watched the main card Saturday morning and apart from the main event it was really good.

Not watched the Taylor fight yet - what was your view on the 'robbery'?

As I have written earlier in this thread, I scored 95 - 93 for Taylor and with one point deducted I ended up with exactly the same score as the judges.

The fight was outstanding - just like their first date :)
