Williams had the style and attributes to beat Marciano, but somehow, I don't think he would. Rocky by stoppage somewhere in the mid to late rounds.

Rocky just seems unbeatable… even to people who logically could do it.

I have a feeling that something would give somewhere in the mid rounds.

Until WIlliams KO'd him, probably around the 8th.

As Sonny Liston "He can punch as hard as I can, but he can't take it like I can."

I suspect it would be the same here. Marciano would make it a gutter war, smoother him up close and infight and be dirty.

Liston would be a favorite to beat him. But Williams isn't the only big puncher I think Marciano beats. The Baer brothers should be able to beat Marciano on paper, but I'd favor Rocky to beat both, with Max Baer being the toughest assignment and I wouldn't necessarily consider it an upset if Max beat Rocky.

Just like Lyle and Shavers should be able to bounce Joe Frazier around the ring, but I'd pick Frazier to stop both.

Marciano paid the price getting close against geriatric, stumpier fighters. Against Williams he would get hammered like soft tin.

    KO5.

You mean like how Williams got stopped by a 176lbs Bob Satterfield? Don't remember Marciano paying that price

Williams was beaten by guys not in Marciano's league.

I remember Marciano getting dropped by a couple guys who should have been collecting their pension, one of whom as a puffy 188 pounder. And Marciano wasn't a last minute replacement for anyone of quality, let alone a free swinging home run hitter like Satterfield.

If Williams had the comfy schedule Marciano had, hometown fights against easy touches while he developed, a lack of the new American super-athlete, then his record would have looked a lot different.

Bigger than Satterfield and also better fighters than Satterfield failing to stop Marciano is worse than Satterfield stopping Williams within 3?

    Cope and seethe

One Earnie Terrell or Sonny Liston and that wee Son of Abruzzo would know what it's like to face the super modern athlete which history allowed him to avoid.

There are levels. Marciano reached his and in the context of historical progression it was lower than what followed.

    Go, Rudy.
