1. Ali 2. Foreman 3. Frazier 4. Holmes 5. Norton 6. Young 7. Lyle 8. Shavers 9. Quarry 10. Bonavena I thank everyone who will write, because I will try to make a topic according to the "Mount Rushmore" principle: https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/mount-rushmore-of-hw-chins.713014/ https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/h2h-heavyweights-mount-rushmore.717538/ https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/mount-rushmore-of-hw-punchers.709690/ ...so the results on the topic "Mount Rushmore of HW 70s" will be interesting to me and to you
My mistake! Leon Spinks, no matter what; by winning the lineal HW title in the 70s, he deserves a place in the TOP 10. Leon Spinks broke Ali's streak: Frazier, Norton, Shavers, Young.... I would cross Bonnavena off my list. P.S. also your observation that Foreman is ahead of Ali in the 70s deserves an explanation
because Foreman was more dominant. In 3 fights, Ali was probably slightly worse than Norton, marginally better than Frazier and none of them was close to Foreman, who destroyed them. I know Ali beat Foreman but Kinshasa was a very special circumstance, it greatly favored Ali. Besides, George was very rusty. In my opinion, 10 wins 9 fights. He looked better in other fights. I have no doubt that he was the best in the 1970s
1. Ali 2. Foreman 3. Frazier 4. Holmes 5. Norton 6. Young 7. Quarry 8. Lyle 9. Shavers 10. Joe Bugner and Oscar Bonavena (tie)

Foreman Ali Norton Frazier Young Lyle Shavers Bugner Ellis Quarry I don't include Holmes but if I did he'd be 7th ahead of Shavers.
I don’t know your parameters? As a whole, probably… Ali, Holmes, Frazier, Foreman, Quarry or Ellis… then Norton or Young? Throw in Bonavena… Tate… the only clear ones are the top 4 for me.
Ali Foreman Frazier Norton Young Quarry Holmes Lyle Shavers Bugner This is based off their career in the 70s only
If we look exclusively at success in the 70s, I don't think there's a lot in it, to be frank. I'm happy to be corrected, but I think Quarry's only rated wins in the '70s were against Foster and Lyle himself. The latter, of course, should count in Quarry's favor but he was fighting a Lyle '73, who had not yet become the maximum threat level version of '75/76. (Should that matter? I am not sure - I think it not unreasonable to evaluate the win based on when it occurred.) Lyle, to the best of my knowledge, beat four rated opponents during the 70s - Bonavena, Shavers, Bugner and Ward. He also gave a better account of himself against Ali than Quarry did on two occasions. However, there are also some question marks here - the quality of the Bugner win and the stage Ali was at when Lyle faced him (which is less concerning, in my opinion). I don't think it's clear-cut and I'm still undecided.
I agree. Absolutely baffling. It's being overshadowed because two of the three lists that have Lyle over Quarry have much bigger issues to say the least.
