Cleve was 20 and coming in on short notice when he fought Bob, but he was also 201 lbs and in his first encounter with Sonny, Cleve was 210. Was his increase in durability during this period that substantial, or is Bob just that hard of a hitter?

Foster was a very hard puncher. If he could catch Cleveland Williams before Williams caught him, he could knock him out. This fight comes down to who gets there firstest with the mostest.

What's Foster, got to do, got to do with it? Besides being a second hand emotion.

I think that it’s clear that Williams was still physically developing when he faced Satterfield

    - there’s a pic of Williams earlier in his career and he looks like a stick relative to his later build. Citing outliers who were near or at peak at the same age is merely point to minority exceptions, not the rule.

There’s a poster here who likes to claim
that Williams padded his record with nobodies - whilst asserting, at the same time, that 20 yo Williams was not green - a case of wanting his cake and eating it too - such is his prejudiced position.

Stay tuned for said poster’s likely, imminent arrival.

Anyway, imo, a more matured Williams could’ve just as easily rolled Satterfield if they were rematched later in Cleve’s career.

 The soundtrack to our youth. The reference to Bob Foster The People set me back for a second also.

If this looks like a stick to you Puggy, I think there's some body dysmorphia going on!

Haha - a bit of BDD in play you reckon Pedro old mate? Could be, I still think that my 17” biceps look puny.

Cleve always had the terrific frame to build on but 200 lbs is 200 lbs. Here’s another photo with Cleve looking a bit more “sticky”, lol: -

Nobody is saying he wasn’t? The claim being made here is that he was clearly under developed at that point in his life which is clear as day.

At 20 years old, your body is still physically developing. Williams clearly grew a lot bigger later in his career to the point where 201 was an anomaly. Not sure why people continue to deny this.

Theoretically Williams COULD have won a rematch at the right time in a future bout. But I think there’s a reason why that fight never happened again

True. But coming in on short notice is something that can affect BOTH fighters involved . And while I realize Williams was still a developing kid, the flip side of that is he had been fighting in the pros for FIVE years with thirty six bouts behind him plus the physical advantage. To make a comparison, Tommy Morrison was only around 21 years old and only in the pros for four years with 24 fights when he took on Quick Tillis in 1991. If Tommy had been knocked out as badly as Williams was by satterfield, this forum would still be raging about it today.

I’ll just say that Tommy was already 227 1/2 lbs for Tillis, his top and substantive prime weight which he basically remained at for the balance of his career.

After the Satterfield fight, Cleve put on another 10-15 lbs, without an ounce of fat on him still.

Also, if one could viably argue for Williams being in his prime vs Satts, - then that might enable one to argue for Satt’s victory over Cleve being even more impressive and definitive than peak Ali’s 1966 victory over post gun shot wound Cleve.

Suffice to say, ultimately reaching the above conclusion does not compute.

For mine, Williams was at the top of his fully empowered game during the period of the Liston fights - therefore I think Liston beat the actual best version of The Big Cat - therefore Sonny’s pair of victories over Williams were THE most impressive.
