In a horrific HW era, yes. Let's keep things in perspective.

You can only fight who's in front of you. And since Wilder doesn't have any good wins except Ortiz and Stiverne, I have to give credit where the credit is due.

This is fake news. Wilder passed on Anthony Joshua and famously "bet on himself". He didnt want any smoke w/ Wlad nor did he want to fight Whyte or Pulev or young Parker or even fat Andy Ruiz Jr lol

Wilder did not fight any of those guys. Why's that?

Even if you adopt the view that his résumé is overrated, Tyson's stomps a mudhole in Wilder's.

Half of Mike's has more substance than all of Deontay's.

Because he ducked them. But that's irrelevant to the topic of Ortiz. He was a Top 5 contender and you got to give Wilder credit for fighting and beating him.

You think that Wilder is jealous of Tyson? Tyson is still a beloved cultural icon 38 years after winning his first title. Outside of boxing forums like this one, will anyone be talking about Wilder in 38 years?

Of course they won't. He's a footnote in the pro annals. If anything people will talk, in the context of the history of boxing in the Olympics, about the heartwarming story of him dedicating his bronze medal to his daughter suffering from spina bifida. That is what initially endeared me to Wilder in 2008, before he spent his entire professional career vaporizing all that goodwill.

He beat a 39 year old contender who was never champion himself in a 6+ belt era. Decent win but Wilder avoided real competition his whole career. In fact, Wilder only fought Fury bc he/PBC believed Fury was shot/retired.

Wilder a damn bum. Couldnt even KO Charlie Zelenoff lmfao

I basically agree with that. Still, I give him credit for Ortiz.

Don’t oversight the KO of Charlie Zelenoff. That’s a standout on Wilder’s resume - a highly prized scalp.

Wilder punching Zelenoff while down can’t be justified technically but the background was that Zelenoff had said some very nasty stuff re Wilder and his family and Zelenoff was trying to cop out by staying down.

Basically, in the same circumstance, many if not most of us might’ve kept going on him also.

I believe I can explain this. My theory is that Tyson's style is something of a Minoan toilet, and while Wilder is something of an amateur historian, he finds a difficulty in conceptualizing it, in the context of the sport's own history, as no one uses it again yet, anymore, despite its genius. But then you've got guys like Patterson and Torres. When will it become normal again for the next time and how, who, what, when, where? I don't know if I'm making sense here. Minoan toilet.
