Walcott of 1952 could probably beat Quarry and Ellis. After all, he came very close to beating perhaps the primest form of Marciano.

 

Loses to Ali in a tough fight. Beats Frazier in a war. I used to think he'd lose to both, but I watched more of Marciano's fights & I was very impressed with his skills. He had the skillset to beat Frazier. He was very skilled & doesn't get the recognition of being a very smart boxer.

 

Same. I used to think Frazier would beat him, but after going on a Marciano binge watch, I realised I was lied to about his talent. He had very high ring IQ, solid boxing skills, very good defense, great counter-punching skills, solid footwork & accuracy. I think all of that is more than enough for him to beat Frazier in a very tough fight.

 

I will use my standard line about Marciano but it will continue to go over his acolytes' heads because they look at this man with romanticism and as a symbol of something that once was rather than cold, rational assessment.

I honor and respect what Marciano did in the ring, in his time and place, against the people he faced. That's why I rank him fifth on my ATG list.

But as I've noted before as well, my ATG list doesn't depend on how someone would do H2H. I think there are 15 to 20 people on my ATG list who are above or below Marciano who would clean his clock in a H2H battle, and some of them would leave him twitching and unconscious in a pool of his own blood.

Over the past 30 years I've seen plenty of successful Ali styles fighters, not one stubby, short, slow, bad balanced slugger who got anywhere in that division.

 

I just can’t understand this, “one armed” myth. Almost all his fights are there, in colour, in full, for people to see. His body attack was a whirlwind assault of lefts & rights, punctuated by a left hook upstairs. If he were just throwing lefts as the only meaningful punch downstairs, a club fighter could have figured him out & beaten him.

 

Nah dude you're the one who doesn't know what he's talking about! All Frazier had was a left hook that he winged senselessly out there with no set-up or planning.... Eugene Hart style even!

Marciano is a plenty skilled boxer, though. Way more then some dunce like Smokin' Joe.

No way man journeywhatever is tops! He must be among the top 250 posters that have registered in the past few years even!

 

He’s not literally “one handed” he just didn’t use it well or as often as he should have at his level, compared to most fighters I can see it on screen in colour he was one armed and had a dead right hand… when you put your weight on the front foot it castrates your right this is a fact.
