February twenty-second in Riyadh. WBC middleweight title at stake, in Adames' first defense since promotion from interim status after defeating Terrell Gausha for the vacant belt in March.

Sheeraz is the #1 contender in the WBC ratings and thus Adames' mandatory. Curiously, in the Ring Magazine rankings Adames is #3 - behind Sheeraz at #1 and Janibek Alimkhanuly at #1 (their ultimate crown is currently vacant).

Unsurprisingly, no common opponents despite both having swam in the same waters in parallel (Adames began his career at welter but was campaigning at 154lbs when Sheeraz debuted there) as to date they've plied their respective trades entirely on either side of the Atlantic. In addition to being five years the champ's junior and the undefeated A-side "house" man (Turki Al-Sheikh named Sheeraz global ambassador of his Riyadh Season program), the Pakistani-Brit has four inches of height and two inches of reach over the Dominican-American.

Not seen much Sheeraz - heard he's got a good jab? And record reflects decent power.

Adames is better than he gets credit for imo. The guy can punch and he cuts some nice angles. I don't trust Hamzah's chin or the hype around him and think this fight could be a banana peel for him.

I agree, I think Hamzah is overrated, his boxing ability isn't great as we saw against Skeete. However, Hamzah is very very heavy handed.

yeah and if there was still full footage of that fight online, people who hadn't seen it would be thinking different about him.

But the full fight video of the career welterweight, semi retired, domestic level Bradley Skeete boxing his ears off for 90% of the fight, has conveniently been deleted from the entire internet!!!

Crazy that the video of that fight is suddenly gone. Sums his performance up really.

When are people going to let go of the Skeete fight? That was an entirely different fighter, a 22 year old weight-drained 154-pound Hamzah put on a lackluster performance and you still shame him about it. If he was the same fighter he would have gotten flattened by Ammo Williams and had a competitive fight with Denny. He's got a piston jab, looping dangerous shots, beautiful shot selection. Janibek is his only real threat.

Adames was schooled by Terrell Gausha and got a massive gift, the power and jab of Gausha had him incredibly timid throughout. If a tremendously easy to outbox featherfist like Gausha made him gunshy, Sheeraz will have him defecating himself. Sheeraz by brutal KO. For what it's worth, I think Sheeraz is a glass jawed hype job, who gets violently stopped when he steps up. I called him Sheer Ass for years for a reason, yet hilariously his perspective lacking hypers are losing it thinking he's the next big thing because he beat an overrated scrub like Ammo Williams and Tyler Denny who he had like a 20 inch reach advantage on. He will lose and lose badly, but Adames is not the man for the job.

Sheeraz is a phenom, and will win by knockout.

I've somehow managed to never catch Sheeraz in the almost six years since his blitz of Rod Douglas Jnr on the Daniel Dubois vs. Răzvan Cojanu & Anthony Yarde vs. Travis Reeves undercard. Literally a minute and change of him in action, I've seen. :sisi1

So not really in a position to comment on his current form or chances on the world scene overall, but - on paper, is going life & death with a shot thirty-something Gausha really worse than going life & death with a shot thirty-something Skeete?

Would Sheeraz only be the fourth Arab champion? The only other ones i can think of are Naz, Amir Khan and Dib
