You realize just because a fight doesn’t happen, doesn’t mean someone ducked the other? Wilder was already signed for a fight in April (which got cancelled due to Wolder’s opponent being injured requiring a sub but there’s no way Wilder could’ve known) by the time Klitschko and Joshua signed

It’s not at all uncommon for champions to defend their title a couple times, before agreeing on a unification bout.

If it was as common as you’re making it out to be, Fury-Usyk wouldn’t have been the first unified title bout in 25 years.

Using this logic, Tyson ducked Holyfield in ‘90 because he decided to fight Douglas first.

So no it’s clearly untrue that Wilder and his team have admitted to ducking Wlad.

 

For starters, he could have actually rematched Sanders instead of having his big brother do it for him. But, besides that, it was a pretty woeful era.

 

9/10 is right. There was nothing more he could have done shy of fighting his brother, but we know that would never happen. Rightfully so.
He never dropped a single belt ducking an opponent. He dominated his opposition like very few before him and none since. Nobody is going to duplicate what he has done for a long time. He fought many young prime contenders. Many guys perform mop up duties on faded names that are still in the public imagination. He has the second longest reign in terms of years to only Joe Louis. He has the 3rd longest reign in terms of consecutive defenses again only to Louis and Holmes. However Holmes dropped belts and was awarded new ones to keep streak alive.
Wlad will be appreciated more overtime.

Valuev is the best fighter he didn't fight in his 2nd reign he could have actually fought. Otherwise Matt Skelton or someone like that? Wlads 2nd reign would have him in the GOAT convo if not for those 3 losses.

Wlad never beat a p4p ranked fighter , hall of famer or ATG.

Ruled over the worst era of HW boxing ever. Tag teamed it with his brother. Worst of all he had to break every rule in the book and cheated incessantly just to keep winning.

Never got awarded Ring fighter of the year. Never won Ring fight of the year.

His era and title reign was so bad and shameful Sky and HBO passed on a number of his title defences

For the first and last time in history, the HW crown was defended on Eurosport and the now defunct EPIX.

History has shown that great fighters blow their undermatched opponents out in spectacular fashion. Wlad stunk the joint out every time against ham n eggers

A reign over the overmatched. Old, shot, small in stature, or sometimes plain hopeless. On top of that were the ridiculous contractual clauses, glove mandates, ring canvas fiddling, and whatever else.

I was glad to see the back of him.

 

8/10 I guess? On that final title reign from Byrd rematch to Fury loss. For the most part, it was not his fault that there was not much talent around.

He probably could've fought Hasim Rahman earlier, when He was still "serviceable". He could've unified against Oleg Maskaev.
Juan Carlos Gomez was one very good contender that was there to fight for Wlad also. He eventually got a title shot from Vitaly, but only in 2009 - past his physical prime. He was world ranked for years and would've been a good opponent around 2006-2008.
Valuev as well, although I don't rate him so I don't see it as a big miss. It would've been a big event due to Nikolay's size, but I don't think it would be a major challange.
