If the December 2003 rematch between Lewis and Klitschko had occurred, who would have won?

Was younger than Lewis when he retired. And you never know how Lewis' body belt after that war with Vitali. Maybe this let him know he was done.

I think Vitali would have won rematch but Lewis holds a legitimate win over Vitali. Ifs and buts mean nothing.

Lewis gave his word and said to Vitali and a room full of boxing pundits and reporters “Sure! I’ll rematch him. No problem.” Then kinda hung around for about a year, hoped like hell Kirk Johnson would score the miracle against Vitali, then retired before cheering on Corrie Sanders (A guy he wasn’t even good buddies with. Didn’t even attend his funeral) from the sideline in LA.

    FACTS.

Statistically Lewis has the track record of winning rematches.. a great tactician as a trainer and plus how vulnerable would Vitali’s cut be 6 months on?

    >Lewis was losing until he did what you need to win!

So, he won? Almost like the early half of the fight doesn't matter if you end up winning by KO or busting their face up.

I'm sure Vitali would have stopped Lewis in rematch and Lennox himself wouldn't retire had he thought otherwise. Saying that, Lewis refusing to give Vitali rematch isn't nearly as bad as him chasing (and even suing!) beyond shot Tyson in attempt for rematch after pummelling him like a drum in the first fight. It was extremely pathetic from Lewis. I mean, Larry Holmes didn't try to get a ghost of Ali in the ring again, Rocky Marciano never tried to get a ghost of Joe Louis (who, BTW, was WAY more competitive against him than Tyson was against Lewis), but Lewis was chasing Tyson rematch like a mad man, and it was really pathetic

Almost like if Vitali never got cut he would have pounded Lewis into dust.

Which is the scenario Lewis was facing in the rematch.*

*Excluding the clowns who imagine Vitali gets cut every time he fights Lewis

Almost like if Lewis wasn't 37, career heaviest and didn't take Vitali as a late replacement he would've smashed Klitschko in easier fashion

"If Lewis didn't bust Vitali up by punching him in the face, he wouldn't win"

All we need to do is look at the facts

Those cuts get punched open again. Lewis fought Vitali as a late replacement while he was the heaviest he's ever been and still made 5 separate gashes in 1 fight. Vitali would be coming back with semi healed scar tissue all over his face against the same guy who made them + Lennox would come better prepared than the first fight. You do the math

Assuming they didn't wait for it to heal properly :eusa_whistle:

That said, it makes Lewis' dodging of the rematch even worse if we're assuming Vitali would be handicapped like that.
