Please give me your own version This one is tough to do as A) It is hard to compare the weights--I gave a slight but not absolute favor to the heavies B) Some of those defenses are pretty non-descript C) Do you give him Holmes II? I didn't since most felt he lost it Holmes I Eddie Musafa Muhammed Dwight Muhammed Qawi Marvin Johnson Gerry Cooney Yanqui Lopez Murray Sutherland II Mustapha Wasajja Johnny Davis Stephan Taangstaad (slightly undervalued heavy) OTHER NOTABLES Holmes II (because most felt he didn't win it). Murray Sutherland I Vonzell Johnson Jerry Celestine Oscar Riveradeneyra
Holmes 1 Holmes 2 Qawi Mustafa Marvin Johnson Lopez Cooney I think these are his notable wins, he doesn’t have any more, which isn’t a slight on him, he proved his worth in these wins.
Eddie Davis, Sutherland, Vonzell Johnson, MacDonald? Tangstad is one of the better EBU HW champs. Hes got more.
I meant at world level, fights that improved his legacy, I don’t think not having these other wins would’ve knocked his legacy down.
1. Larry Holmes 1 2. Dwight Muhammad Qawi 3. Eddie Mustafa Muhammad 4. Marvin Johnson 5. Yaqui Lopez 6. Gerry Cooney 7. Mustafa Wasajja 8. Murray Sutherland 2 9. Vonzell Johnson 10. Eddie Davis I rated the Davis fight as the lowest because that was a controversial decision Spinks had a rare bad day at the office that night. I didn't include Holmes 2 because for me that was a robbery I even watched it like 6 months and scored it again and I still think its a clear robbery. Wasajja goes slightly above Sutherland because I think he had better wins at the weight Burnett, Foster, Andries, plus he was undefeated.
Out of all the fights at heavyweight, I’d classify as robberies not just close decisions I scored for the losing fighter, there are only 3 (out of the ones I watched). Ellis-Patterson, Foreman-Briggs, and Holmes-Spinks II. Haven’t watched the first Holmes-Spinks fight in years but I remember thinking Holmes narrowly took it by a point or so. Will probably change my mind if I saw it again.
I'll have to watch the 1st fight between Holmes and Spinks again I've only seen it once I'll do a scorecard and @You in the scorecard thread.
Tallies so far Holmes I 3 Eddie Musafa Muhammed 3 Dwight Muhammed Qawi 3 Marvin Johnson 3 Gerry Cooney 3 Yanqui Lopez 3 Murray Sutherland II 2 Mustapha Wasajja 2 Holmes II 1 Johnny Davis 1 Stephan Taangstaad 1 Vonzell Johnson 1 Eddie Davis 1
Just kidding I'm an IT major. I'm 23 years old just finishing up my degree. Took a couple years off after high school, to pursue boxing and was doing very well until a picture-perfect left hook shattered one of my discs, and doctors have told me any one punch could paralyze me at that point. So not doing that anymore.
I'm a bit older than you I'm 25 I'm into personal training I also tried boxing in my teens but it wasn't for me I'm not a naturally aggressive person I don't have it in me. I do like the training aspect of it though and I sometimes do some sparring with some of my mates at the gym.
I can't even do any light sparring. But yes, I still love the training aspect of it. I run 7 miles a day (except when my herniated disc flares up to the point I'm forced to stop), do extensive jump roping, and hit the speed bad a lot. I'm not really a fan of hitting the bags anymore. Gets very repetitive and now that I'm retired, there's very little reason to do something that quite frankly bores me.
The defenses are rough to differentiate, and I am not even pretending to have watched all the fights. Wajja beat Denis Andries, Jerry Celestine, Avenamar Peralta X2, and Bob Foster Murray Sutherland went on to briefly hold a super middleweight title Johnny Davis has wins over Jeff Lampkin, Yanqui Diaz, and Qawi, although in context none are that great Vonzell Johnson had a win over Johnny Davis Jerry Celestine had a win over Vonzell Johnson Eddie Davis beat Murray Sutherland Jim McDonald...can't really find a big win David Sear...can't really find a big win Oscar Rivednayra has a win over Jerry Celestine I am sure others have better insights.
