I know that Usyk has a big advantage here, but I was just curious how he would fare against someone with a powerful punch like Bruno. After all, Usyk is vulnerable to strong punches.
Bruno was nowhere near Usyk`s level, it would have been like all Bruno`s other losses, he`d use his long jab to make things awkward early on then start to gas and get stopped, Usyk is far too quick for a stiff fighter like Bruno, if Usyk hurt Bruno with the shot he hurt Fury with he would go on to easily finish Frank.
Usyk struggled with a lesser clone of Bruno in Joshua. Based on that i wouldn't call it a "lol" thread, Usyk stands a reasonable chance.
Frank fights on equal terms for around 9 rounds till the fatigue sets in. Then Usyk goes in for the kill.
I think Usyk wins and he and wins comfortably. Usyk UD or late rounds KO. But Bruno has a puncher’s chance. Bruno could put together decent combinations and his right hand was dynamite. I wouldn’t call him stiff, he was fundamentally sound. His punches were fluid and he moved reasonably well during his run of form in the 80s. His issue was his inability to recover or get out of trouble once hurt. I think his defence was OK but just like Tommy Morrison - once you had Bruno hurt it was pretty much game over. I still remember his KO loss to Bonecrusher Smith when he was up on all scorecards. That KO was brutal.
John I normally agree with you on alot of things but I have to disagree with you here. I wouldn't exactly say Joshua is a poor man's version of Bruno he's a better combination puncher, better movement, more varied offence. Bruno has a far better jab but I wouldn't say Bruno holds alot of advantages over Joshua infact I think they have alot of the same weaknesses. I also don’t think Usyk struggled with Joshua that much at all really I had Usyk beating Joshua 9-3 in both fights they were both quite comfortable wins especially the 1st fight. I see Usyk vs Bruno going the same way honestly except Usyk could possibly stop Bruno late on due to his poor stamina. I know Joshua is going to be rated alot lower now due to his poor showing vs Dubois but let's be honest if Bruno got caught with the same right hand he probably would've been stopped earlier see the Jumbo Cummings fight Bruno was virtually stopped on his feet and the bell saved him.
Bruno has some obvious strong points like his jab and strength and power. But Unfortunately I think Usyk has two particular attributes (footwork; fighting brain) that nullify that and take advantage of Bruno's worst aspect, his small gas tank. Usyk would use footwork to create angles on him and play defence for the first half of the fight, allowing Bruno to tire himself out chasing and getting countered. Once Frank started to gas thanks to his mega muscles, Usyk would step on the gas and settle the matter before the final bell.
