I voted for Qawi. Much better all around fighter and with very little amateur experience, and always at a size disadvantage
I really enjoyed the Qawi vs. Foreman fight! I think it was much more interesting than people give it credit for. Foreman was in his best shape of the comeback for this fight, yet he kept getting hit with combinations of hooks to the head from the shorter Qawi. Qawi was powerfully built, strong, and had excellent head movement. Foreman absorbed everything Qawi had to offer and responded with his own punches, which Qawi couldn’t withstand as well.
Agreed Qawi was alot more skillful had one of the best defenses of all time for an aggressive fighter very good counter puncher and a nice varied offence not to mention he had to be very skillful to beat much taller fighters than himself.
that is also one of my faves. Imagine if Qawi had size, what he could do with his ability? There would be almost no one he couldnt beat.
I loved watching Qawi in action. There was something about the guy. And I would rather watch a Dwight Muhammad Qawi fight than a Ken Norton fight (but it is close). With that said, Ken Norton defeated a very good version of Muhammad Ali, and defeated Jerry Quarry and Jimmy Young, so I will have to go with Ken Norton as the better fighter.
Qawi was so shot at that point and still hung in there. Qawi had no business being in that fight but it was a good payday for him at tue end of his career. What a lot of folks don't realize is at that point, Qawi was suffering from alcoholism at that time and not training like he should hense his weight. Qawi really was at his best at 175 where he was always a handful for anyone in arguably the toughest wra of that division.
Norton was cool and gave two best heavyweights of each era a run for their money, but Qawi...imo his resume had much more substance, same to his style.
