The Ali of the 2nd Norton fight fights the best version of Whyte? Who wins?

Ali wins any way he wants it. Whyte kind of stinks. If Ali found him remotely threatening, he would stop him. But, Whyte would be so many steps behind Ali that i am not sure Ali would even need to get out of second gear to cruise to a wide UD.

@Pat M in standard fashion I think that this will be another fantasy landslide win for a guy who lost to a limited Ken Norton and a very small Joe Frazier, Cooper almost had him too in his mythical prime… fire starting aside… I don’t think Whyte would win however, I do think that someone as big as Whyte with the right plan could be an interesting fight and I’d be interested in a modernist sort of opinion to stimulate discussion - your Whytes trainer how do you try and get him over the finish line with a win?

@Seamus you boxed a bit and favour modern fighters for the sake of having a bit more then “Ali via 68 style master class bro” if you were trying to advise Whyte on winning how do you think he’d have to fight to get there?

The intellectual gap here is very wide I agree but if you were trying to play devils advocate how should Whyte try and win?

Ali is a modern fighter in my book. My advice to Whyte is to enjoy his paycheck.

Whyte is a 6-4, 250 pound athletic guy with a good left hook. Besides that I don't know a lot about him, I saw him beat up Lucas Browne, and I also saw him lose to Tyson Fury. I don't remember much about Whyte's boxing style, but with his size and the hook...Didn't Ali have problems with left hooks? I don't remember Whyte being slow or clumsy in the ring.

The only fighter Ali ever fought who weighed 250 pounds was Buster Mathis and the 29 year old Ali had to go to a decision with him, even though Mathis hadn't been in the ring in almost 3 years, was fat, and was not a big puncher. Whyte would be much more dangerous and better conditioned, plus his best punch is the punch that troubled Ali the most. Ali got hit plenty by Norton's and Frazier's hooks, Whyte's hook would be coming with a lot more weight behind it from a much bigger man. Without watching video, it seems like a tough fight for Ali against an opponent who is not like anybody he ever fought.

Even at his best, Whyte was a somewhat exciting (but sloppy) low IQ B-/C+ level brawler with somewhat decent fundamentals, decent stamina, a good powerful hook, but leaky defense. There's a Dillian Whyte in every era. In the early 2000's, his equivalents were guys like Arreola or Jameel Mccline. In the 90's, his variant was Alex Stewart, and so on. A crowd pleasing, brave fighter who lets his hands go, wins some, loses some.

In other words, Ali has absolutely nothing to worry about. Ironically, since Whyte loves to talk trash, he might even annoy Ali at the presence conference making Ali even more cautious so as to avoid being embarrassed for even 1 second. Ali would show up in good shape and would be on high alert looking out for those thumping body shots and his signature left hook. Ali teaches him a boxing lesson and then wins a convincing decision or stops him late from an accumulation of blows.

You might want to try actually watching fights before commenting instead of simply looking up how tall fighters are and how heavy they are. This may shock you, but there's more to boxing than just the tale of the tape.

Ali carried Mathis. He didn't "have" to go to a decision. You're writing this as if he tried to take out Mathis with everything he had and just couldn't. Mathis was in pretty bad shape and Ali just wouldn't let his hands go staying in first gear. Ali scored multiple knockdowns and didn't bother trying to go for the KO, even shaking his head with pity.

The hilarious thing about your comparison of Whyte to Mathis is that Whyte has been nearly as fat as Mathis in some fights, but again you might know that if you actually bothered to watch fights.

He’s a coach who took the time to answer in a specified capacity and your knee jerk reaction is to be disrespectful? “There’s more to boxing” @Pat M has probably forgotten then you know.

    Pat M doesn't know **** about boxing.

He once said Jarrel Miller could've beaten Fury and Wilder. His takes are hilariously bad.

@Pat M takes on fantasy sport hypotheticals aren’t usually in line with mine (which means nothing) but he’s definitely displayed a better know how on actual boxing then “knowledgeable” posters here, he’s given me advice that’s worked, all his technical write ups are something a lot of people should take a look at to learn something. If I had to guess he’s one of maybe 5 guys here who actually knows boxing at such a high level, we are all mostly internet quarter backs lol.

Ali carried Mathis. Embarrassing and hurting his opponents more than what is necessary wasn't his thing.
