It looked to me at least like Chavez was getting bested again by Randall in the 2nd fight, in today's terms a cut like that would continue, it seemed to me like Chavez didn't want to continue and figured he was up on the cards at the time of the stoppage giving him the controversial win. What say you?

(Also) the point deducted from Mills Lane was not warranted, the headbutt was totally unintentional and mills himself stated that after the fight. Why take a point?

I have always felt the second Randall fight was stolen from Frankie by boxing politics eager to have Chavez back as champion and the worst part was how eager Chavez went almond with it .... Randall deserved an immediate rubber match which was not granted till many years later when Frankie was a wreck of a shell.

I haven't seen it in years but I remember Randall was winning the fight in my view and getting the better of Chavez in the last few rounds. And Chavez see an opportunity to get out of the fight to save himself from taking another loss and figured he would win a decision. The fact the 1st fight was also a Split Decision was highly sus aswell.

This was my take on the fight. As I noted below, courtesies extended to Chavez.

Julio Cesar Chavez v Frankie Randall II (jr. welterweight title)

    Round 1: 10-10 Even
    Round 2: 10-9 Randall
    Round 3: 10-9 Chavez
    Round 4: 10-9 Chavez
    Round 5: 10-9 Randall
    Round 6: 10-9 Chavez
    Round 7: 10-9 Randall
Round 8: 9-9 Even (I had Randall winning the round until an accidental headbutt terminated matters. Mills Lane deducted a point from Randall's score)

Total: 76-76 Tech. Draw (actual scores: 76-75 and 77-74 both for Chavez and a 76-75 for Randall)

It should be noted that a few courtesies were extended to Chavez. Dr. Flip Homansky said he would have let it go on, but Chavez told him he didn't want to, so Homansky stopped the fight. Well, that's a retirement then and it shouldn't have gone to the scorecards. As one can see I had it very tight, so this could have gone either way had it finished without the cut. But even if Chavez said he would continue there is no way it could have gone on. The cut would have ripped open with the first punch of the 9th round. But the fact remains that Chavez did not wish to continue and it should have gone into the books as a retirement.

He absolutely bowed out. Notice in that fight he was moving and boxing more. He did pretty well at it, but the implication there is that Frankie had broken his code, and forced the always ferocious, constantly aggressive Chavez to back off and box, rather than run into a blizzard of punches as he had been.

He did not cover himself with glory, and did not go out on his shield. That, after acting like a petulant child after Randall beat him the first time, make him among my least favorite fighters ever.

    Yes.

Dr. Homansky said to the effect of he indicated to me that he did not want to continue fighting. The cut was a serious gash but I would have let the fight continue.

Apparently the WBC did have a rule, which was a stupid rule, that the fighter that didn't get cut from a butt, even if unintentional, loses a point if the other guy gets cut and they stop it for the cut. I dont know if it was really a rule, or they made it up on the spot. LOL

Both guys heads came together. Randall didn't cause the cut solely. So this weird rule was used. it felt like they made it up on the spot but who knows.

Yes unfortunately it tarnished his reputation.
Same as his attitude when he lost to Randall in the first fight, he kicked off and made him self look a bad loser.
