That fight was truly competitive,but with Duràn dropping Paz twice...does it makes him deserves the win? Or an even closer scorecards? Give me your opinion on this...
Duran should have one the first one. He looked like **** in the second fight though. I just don't even value those fights all that much when evaluating either man. Duran was in his 40's and at Super Middleweight which is just a ridiculous weight for him. I'm still blown away that the boxing writers put Paz in the hall of fame.
Ivan Robinson was a very good fighter man. He was a national amateur champion and at the time he beat Gatti twice he had only lost to Philip Holiday and Israel Cardona. No shame in any of those losses. The wheels feel off of Robinson after the Gatti fights which happens to guys sometimes especially after wars like those. Again, Robinson had a very long amateur career and fought at the highest level for years. Gatti is a guy that is a very borderline hall of famer as well. He is in because of the absolute wars he fought in which no doubt we're some of the greatest fights ever.
It was bittersweet watching an old bloated Duran keep fighting. He clearly won the first fight against Paz.
Again, his career was fine until after the Gatti fights. When he fought Gatti, he had only lost twice, once to Phillip Holiday for the IBF lightweight title and once to Israel Cardona for another lightweight title. Holliday had six title defences before losing to Shane Mosley. Robinson's career went off the rails after the Gatti fights which sometimes happens to guys after taking that sort of punishment and he became more or less a journeyman after that. So yes, he ultimately underperformed as a pro. He had the talent to be a world champion but was never the same after the punishment absorbed in those two fights but when Gatti fought him, he was a top guy and a dangerous opponent. I'm assuming you were born in 1990 by your name which means you were 8 years old and probably didn't watch any of these fights when they happened. If you are just looking at a guys records and thinking the wins/losses tells the whole story, you are wrong.
