It can't be someone who held the undisputed heavyweight crown or Larry Holmes. Witherspoon or Berbick or Moorer or McCall would be acceptable picks.

I can't see David Tua beating Liston but I think he has a more decent chance than most contenders.

I'd think Golota would give it a good go.

He'd give it a good go until he starts hitting down below.

Tokyo Douglas. He was a contender when walking into the ring. Seems fair.

Liston would have knocked him out. Golota couldn’t take a punch like Liston, and I say this as a fan of Golota.

David Izon absorbs life shortening punishment (It was his gimmick) before rallying to stop a now flaccid Liston in 10!

Eh. Golota did survive a KD from Tyson that broke his orbital bone, slipped a disc in his neck, and gave him a concussion. Yeah, it made him quit, but it didn't even seem he knew how hurt he actually was.

Yeah but Douglas held the undisputed title.

Let’s not forget his fights with Riddick Bowe. Gołota had a broken jaw and still continued the fight, but the severe pain caused him to resort to low blows. In the fight against Grant, he was also dominating but ultimately refused to continue after being knocked down.

Under the criteria given, I can't think I'd be expecting anyone to win - but the best chance would be with Witherspoon, IMO.

    Ike Ibeabuchi

Corrie Sanders = Did Liston ever fight a southpaw ?

Pinklon Thomas = Would be great to see these two trading heavy jabs.

    Tim Witherspoon

Mercer would also have a live shot. If the Mercer who fought Lennox Lewis showed up, Liston would have a fight on his hands.

Guys… we have no idea how Liston would do with a capable good sized heavyweight… we don’t even know if he’d do well let alone destroy them, Leotis and Ali were the closest… one of those guys was okay and the other one beat him silly. Unless people think Williams is a good shout? Lol.
