Do you think Munguia would have been able to continue if the ref let the fight go on after the KD?

Not against the stoppage at all but rewatching the knockdown prior Munguia did technically beat the count before the referee waved it off, which is a surprise given that the hometown fighter is usually given the benefit of the doubt. Plus, with a fighter with a low KO% I would have figured they would taken that chance to let the fight go on. A different referee might have possibly let the hometown fighter continue. Do you think it’s possible that Munguia would have been able to recover had the fight went on after the knockdown?

Doubt it. But there were 20 seconds left. There's a possibility that he could have stumbled around with a high guard and made it out of the round.

He wasn't in a particular hurry to beat the count and jump back in the game until the ref hit about 7, and lurched unevenly from a hands and knees position at 9 - so, no. he was unfit to continue.

Based on the 20% ko ratio that Surace had it's possible for Munguia to have survived the round and the fight. Against a bigger puncher definitely stop the fight.

Munguia did look to be in bad shape and I think his corner was calling for the fight to be stopped.

Munguia is an excellent top class fighter, but a bad day decided him and he lost, he will come back stronger than ever.

I'm just kidding, Munguia is a glass chin with no defense.

The stoppage was fine but I think he could’ve survived. Munguia has shown good recuperative ability before.

    Absolutely sure.

This punch just connected right on the spot. Munguía was aboslutely uncoordinated, but concious. He would have won that fight 100%.

    20 seconds left only.

Not the kind of KO that puts you to sleep, not a severe beating. Just the punch right on the spot that makes your body not to answer to your mind for a moment. Surviving 20 seconds and take the control of the fight again doesnt look like too difficult for munguía imho.

Maybe, but even in the aftermath he looked pretty unsteady as he was being ushered back to his corner. I don't think it would have taken very much to deposit Munguia on the canvas for a second time and that might well have convinced either the official or the corner to call things off.

Based on the way he was struggling to get off his back and roll over, I'd say it was less about him wanting to take time and more about having the stuffing knocked out him. Definitely a good stoppage.

    No chance.

The next punch was putting him to sleep on the canvas and he was in no state to avoid it.

Good stoppage but IMO Mungia would have survived the round.

Too much emphasis on Mungia's loss and not enough on Surace's win. That was on hell of a come-from-behind performance and the reason a lot of us became hardcore boxing fans. Not sure what his future looks like but I'm definitely looking forward to his next fight.
