I hate the inconsistency and opacity with these rules.

12 rounders should be standardized for all versions of world title bouts and eliminators. (and optional for regional belts, if they are so inclined - I don't honestly care about the length of, say, intercontinental bauble affairs).

Ten rounds should be the maximum length for anything without either of the above stakes - actual hardware and/or the promise of an immediate championship opportunity. I don't care if it involves the biggest box office draw in the world and consensus p4p #1 - you don't get to just arbitrarily go a championship distance for no direct tangible reason. This has always bothered me.

Totally right, I know the titles are sort of a necessary evil at this point and the simplistic one belt view is just a pipedream, even when the sanctioning bodies decided to reduce the number of belts I'm sure we ended up with more belts !

I think the issues with the multiple belts are showing themselves more now in an era where people are fighting twice a year if we are lucky, it makes a mockery of the sport really when the champion and interim/silver/whatever are inactive, and a guy's been sitting as mandatory for over a year, then the champ or interim/silver/whatever need a tune up before a proper fight etc, if it was a more direct pipeline from minor title to major title , like if you win the silver you get the next shot at the champion, and that fight is gonna happen in 4 months maximum, it would be easier to swallow

I've been saying people don't really want the 1 belt era and it comes with its own problems. That doesn't mean permanent secondary titles are the answer. If there was one belt this would kind of make sense. But we've got 4 major sanctioning bodies which can all create interims if the situation arises. A secondary title is seldom going to be held by the divisions heir apparent as designed.

In terms of needing more titles regional belts exist. The WBO was also created specifically to address this problem.
