I selected weaver as winning on points, though I acknowledge there are good reasons for favoring Mercer as well. But Weaver was in superb condition in his prime and overcame a lot of very good fighters. Beat John Tate, Gerrie Coetzee and Bernardo Mercado when they were peak big men who could punch. Beat the crafty Quick Tillis when he was undefeated fought Dokes and Leroy Jones to disputed decisions. Blasted out Carl the truth and gave Holmes fits. I just think he was better than Mercer
Weaver was a better boxer than Mercer. But Mercer could absorb twice the punishment Weaver could. Weaver had a bit of an iffy chin imho. You might see a fight like the Damiani fight, where Mercer gets tuned up for most of the fight and then Mercer caves him in.
