He was a drug addict at that time he'd been using crack cocaine McCall had only just got out of rehab and wasn't in the best place mentally. Hence that's why I don't give Lewis much credit for this win.
I agree 100% It was drugs, not Lewis that made him collapse mentally. And, Lewis was still afraid to let loose on him for fear of being countered.
I compare it to fights such as Ali Vs Holmes. The winner can't really win whatever he does. Lennox and Holmes had to fight those guys whatever their physical or mental state, but they couldn't really celebrate the win as such.
Not that I'm saying Lewis couldn't beat McCall in a rematch but at that point in McCall's career with the drug problems and his mental state at that time I don't give much Lewis much credit for the win as I said.
He was having some kind of breakdown due to drug problems. Shouldn't have been anywhere near a boxing ring that night.
He'd just remembered that he'd left his cat Mr Mittens in the apartment without refilling his water bowl. He asked both Lewis and the ref for a time out so that he could nip back and rectify that, but noooo.
Fresh out of rehab …. Coming off crack is very dangerous u go into a severe depression and that’s when most addicts commit suicide …. He was unstable and shame on those who let this fight go on knowing this guy came in fresh from rehab !!!!
I heard that he tried to commit suicide before their rematch by shooting himself in the head, but the bullets only bounced off it...
He shouldn't have taken the fight in the mental state he was in. Not Lewis's fault and he would beat McCall 9/10 x regardless imo.
No doubt. It was a crime to put the guy in the ring given his mental state. Luckily, no one was seriously hurt given how bizarre the whole event unfolded.
