I remember when a 40 year old Carl Thompson was cherry picked by a young David Haye and Haye got stopped. You can't skip levels, all the talent in the world means little because it can be offset by experience and seasoning. If Itauma/Whyte happened now I see a similar result. Whyte takes the novice deep and drowns him by old manning the kid.
Its could be a pretty good fight, its an interesting match-up. But, I have to say Whyte is just SO much more experienced and proven than Itauma. Although, Whyte has probably declined a bit at least - he still has a few years and a few more good fights left in the tank, I'm surprised and disappointed he's not featured in one of Turki's card's yet, which is probably his own fault for these positive drug test results. He is still a big name and a good fighter that adds enough value to any card. Now - for how I think the fight would actually play out if it happened now. Experience will really reflect this in a mid to late rounds Whyte KO IMO. Whyte's jab, bodywork and counters will really be something that Itauma hasn't experienced before, Itauma hasn't even had his chin tested. I mean beating a sickenly past-it Wach is nothing compared to fighting Dillian Whyte. I can also see Itauma's southpaw come forward style suiting Whyte as well which that will allow Whyte to move to his left and use his left hook that will be such a dangerous counter to Itauma's southpaw offense. Itauma might nick a couple rounds and gain confidence but if they fought now, experience will really show, Whyte is tough as old boots.
Agree with both of your assessments here. Out of interest - you see Itauma V Jermaine Franklin playing out similar as well?
Whyte has more weapons and experience than Franklin which makes him more dangerous than Franklin despite how close Whyte/Franklin was. So I give Itauma a better chance vs Franklin, but again he's so inexperienced, might gas horribly after 6 rounds, might have a China chin even Franklin can crack. Not a fight I would bet on because there's so many unknowns and Franklin hasn't proved he can win against anyone good but then Itauma hasn't proved he's actually any good. I'd favour Franklin just because he's faced better opposition, but wouldn't be shocked if Itauma won.
It'd be a very big step up for Itauma... Not as much as Whyte, but probably still a bit much just yet. Like Whyte, though, it's irrelevant because his team won't put him through that sort of thing just yet - they'll build him up, not throw him in the deep end and see if he sinks or swims.
I only hear crickets… where are all you boxing experts who think Whyte would have a chance? Some plebs even saying Whyte would win comfortably. He’d be ko’d r1 or 2
Spot on. People on here massively underestimate experience, and it's not like Whyte isn't skilled and powerful, he could possibly get one more title shot before he retires. He is a very tough fighter and would knock out Itauma now if they fought.
Do you realise the difference between a literal solid journeyman to a strong title contender? Theres levels to that. No need to disrespect the elder statesmen of the game.
