Yup, I agree.

Usyk is arguably the fight in which AJ should have rolled the dice rather than in the last round with Dubois; instead, like Fury, he tried to outbox the supreme boxer.

Same with Fury, especially since he's almost overnight become a six-round fight at that elite level now, along with how Usyk continuously winds the pace up as the fight goes on. instead, he tried to out-hustle and old-man him as Hopkins attempted with Calzaghe and simply run out of steam in the later rounds.

Imagine if Mike Tyson tried to outbox Michael Spinks; it may have been a different outcome. I do feel Chisora laid the blueprint in how to beat him, much like Teofimo did with Lomochenko.

Personally, I hope Usyk retires now, as he would have to be considered the best of his generation and up there with the greatest of all time; if not, I think he will eventually get sparked out and in brutal fashion, much like Spinks did against Tyson.

A quick heavyweight with real power will be Usyk's downfall if he carries on, like Moses Itauma or someone who just soaks it up and keeps coming, similar to Chavez with Meldrick Taylor.

 

An argument could be made that 2024 has been the best year ever for boxing. The joy of seeing Fury beaten twice is unmatched in my eyes. Cracking stuff, merry Christmas to all!

 

Waste of time talking about Usyk retiring. He won’t.

 

Fury clearly won a round (I think 6) and he was on the front foot throughout most of that round. But Usyk came back stronger in the rounds after that. I kinda agree re Fury draining through the fight, but I don't think he was completely shattered by the end.

I wonder if Fury feels he wasn't back pedalling because he wasn't trying to back pedal. A bit like how a bad football team playing Barcelona will end up camped outside their own box, even if that's not the intention.

The same thing maybe explains why it's hard to work out what Fury was trying to do. It didn't seem to be an aggressive start from Fury, and at no point did he seem to go all out.

 

I don't think he was very mentally healthy in the lead up to the fight.

And same as you have said it was confusing trying to work out what he was doing from round to round. He didn't stick to a solid game plan which might have worked, but it's probably very difficult to do with Usyk bouncing around in your face providing constant pressure.

He probably didn't have the same confidence in his gas tank as he did a few fights ago. I think we saw the best of him in the Wilder fights, and it's time to cash out. He's not going to find any new spark or mojo at this stage of his career.

It's just fury hate if you think 3 judges scoring it 116-112 have it right.

You are saying that AJ won more rounds each fight he had with uysk than fury did tonight despite almost every one agreeing fury gave uysk a closer fight than AJ.

I've rewatched it and I still contend I've got it dead even so could go with uysk by 1 or 2 or tyson by 1 or 2 depending on what the judges prefer, no way uysk won by 6.

And that AI result shows exactly why it will never work in real sports.

A jab hitting the shoulder or arm, does not count the same as a jab hitting the head.
