A young Wlad was very dangerous though. Very aggressive and offensive minded. He had the speed, power and skills to have hurt Usyk.

    Breidis at Cruiserweight
    Chisora at Heavyweight
    and Beterbiev in the amatuers...

... gave Usyk some problems. Shorter fighters with good work rate. At Heavyweight Usyk is usually the guy to slip the jab using head movement and footwork to get in the inside to land his left and combos. But against the shorter man he doesn't fight like that. Shorter heavyweights:-

    Iron Mike Tyson
    Evander Holyfield
    David Tua
    Joe Frazier

Prime Mike Tyson slips the jab gets on the inside and beats on Usyk.

Evander Holyfield leading in with his head, butts his way to a victory.

    David Tua loses by UD.

Frazier loses by UD, Usyk too smart to be caught by that left hook.

Tyson had zero motivation for Ngannou. He just took the cheque.

Although you could say that he’s past his prime, that was a fully focused version of Tyson last night, who fought to his full capabilities.

Even though the scores were too wide, we have to give Usyk a lot of credit for the win. That version of Tyson last night was still a great HW.

It cannot in any way be compared to McBride’s win over Mike Tyson. Mike had given up then, and literally wasn’t even a world level fighter at that point.

    A great post.

Just a few points to add:

IMHO, it wouldn’t have mattered if Mike couldn’t have intimidated him.

Marciano would have had to have been knocked out. Otherwise, he’d have just kept on coming forward.

Not all of us are biased and nostalgic.

Of course they’re hypotheticals. But people have put forward some great points.

It’s not realistic to believe that he’d have taken everyone to slick school, so I’m assuming that you’re just having some fun here.

    What a great fighter though.

Fantastic, and a true role model.

Mike would have been the worst stylistic match up for him out of any HW.

A prime Mike Tyson obliterates Usyk. To this day, the heavyweight who gave Usyk the most problems was Derek Chisora (a front foot pressure fighter) and a prime Tyson (also a front foot pressure fighters) was in another galaxy in comparison to Chisora.

    Prime Tyson had

    1) Foot speed
    2) Hand speed
    3) Stamina
    4) Chin
    5) Knockout power in both hands

Those 5 things are an impossible list of qualities for Usyk to overcome.

To beat Tyson, you have to be brave and stand and trade with him centre ring and not take a step back and test his heart and desire. Usyk doesn't fight like that.

But if Usyk did stand toe to toe with Prime Tyson ? He's dead. He would not have the power to hurt Tyson, nor would he have the power that Tyson would respect.

If Usyk got on his bike ? Tyson's foot speed would catch him and kill him

And prime Tyson was (And a lotta people don't realise this) a gym rat. We are talking prime Tyson, he could run a 5-minute mile, row 2000m in under 7 mins, he trained like a Triathlete. So he would not gas out like these big lumps Usyk fights do.

And that's the thing with Usyk, when he loses, it won't be a tactical chess match points loss, I think he'll loss very badly

Usyk is a modern great, but an ATG ? I'm not sure

Many are and I find it incredibly tedious

Yes but hypotheticals can never be proven. Like I've said many times before, they view the fighters from the past through rose-tinted goggles and the ones of today through the lens of a microscope and I can switch that around very easily

I'm always trying to have fun but I can assure you many would be very surprised at the results or end up with egg on their face if these hypothetical match ups they're so confident of the outcome of could actually materialize.

Yes, a truly great fighter and the certified greatest of his generation

I'd favor Lewis, Tyson, Holyfield, Holmes, Foreman, Ali, and Vitali Klitschko over Usyk.
