Agree, but fury doesn't hit hard and needs that extra weight to carry a knockout threat imo. I think he knew he would never be able to outwork and be quicker than usyk regardless what weight he came in at. And tried to outbox and outfox him the first time but came up short so figured if he did the same he would get the same outcome and decided to go down the heavier route and be more physically imposing. Fury wasn't unfit, far from it his cardio was actually really good. Not many fighters can keep up the pace with usyk over 12 rounds to be fair and Fury was able to pretty well imo.
He was leaner last time and nearly got knocked out. He was closer than victory this time he was never in any danger of being knocked out at any point. There is the land of what ifs and there is a land of what actually happened.

Hell, I agree with you. The out of shape HW's of the 80's don't look so out of shape against the modern HW's. Even Usyk is chubby (which kinda shows there's no reason for him to even be at HW other than wanting to overachieve)

Its only because usyk has a particular set of skills good enough to expose the heavier weights. No one really has the footwork and attributes of usyk. Without them that extra 2 or 3 plus stones of fat becomes a nightmare. I think furys bodies just messed up a bit tbh. Hes now slightly underweight at his prime optimum weight. His optimum weight was something like 245 against wlad. Due to his legs/reactions slowing....his chin is tested more and its not as good at 245/250. kind of now forced to come in a lot heavier than he should be. His staminas always been slightly freakish for a man his size. Usually going up as much as he does.....would derail that stamina but his stamina doesnt deplete as much as it probably should at 275. Better chin and better power for a smaller depletion of stamina probably a decent trade off especially considering his legs arent quite the same anymore regardless of weight.
Fury only lost two fights, they were both against an incredibly good opponent in Usyk, and Fury was competitive in both losses. Both losses occurred back to back in (what seems to be) the tail end of his career. Basically Fury’s career went very well for him right up until the end. Lennox also lost two fights. His losses were both against lesser opponents and he was badly knocked out. The losses were spread out over years. Gives more of a hot and cold pattern to his career. To his credit he avenged both loses. Lennox had a great career, but it was inconsistent because he slipped on a few banana peels along the way. I would compare Fury to Bowe actually. Both are big guys with a ton of natural talent. Their weight, lack of discipline, and mental issues kept them from realizing their true potential. They both had a great trilogy with a rival. They both have a win/loss record that maybe makes them look a little better than they actually were. They both will be remembered for being one of the best…but not the best of their generation. It’s not a hill I would die on, but I feel an argument could be made at least, and I appreciate you hearing it out.
