Appreciation Thread of Usyk the greatest Ukrainian fighter of all time

When Usyk finally retires we can review and assess his standing as a heavyweight, Cruiserweight and his place in the pantheon however for now I can confidently say the following :

1. He is without a shadow of doubt the greatest Ukrainian boxer of all time. Better than both Klitschkos P4P Dr Steel Hammer and Dr Iron Fist, the Matrix Vassily Lomachenko etc.

2. I am not comparing him to Muhammad Ali but I can say he does things in there I have not seen a heavyweight do since Ali.


3. He can carries himself with great dignity in the same way as Ali, Azumah Nelson, Marvin Hagler etc.

This is an appreciation thread so let’s appreciate him. Make positive comments please.

That is probably going to far but that will be judged after his career is over because the competition is really stiff. Think of the Sugar Rays, Ali, Joe Louis, Duran, Floyd, Pernell to name few.

 

He , Tank, AJ and Erroll Spence Jr filled the gap in my life after Floyd retired.

Probably the greatest European fighter of all time.

 

Arguably yes. I rate him higher than Super Joe Calzaghe.

 

The only knock I can give Usyk is that he has not shown that he is much better than his opponents at the elite level. He has not schooled, dominated, destroyed anyone at elite level, and that was the case as a cruiser.

Yes he's beat AJ x2, Gypsy King x2 and Triple D but he didn't run them outta the ring. All the fights against those guys were very competitive. He has yet to do what Spence to did to Crwaford, what RJJ did to Toney, what Mayweather did to Canelo, what Ray Leonard done to Duran in their 2nd fight. What Hagler done to Hearns. What Ali did to Liston, What Tyson did to Spins

I do feel every great fighter needs a few ass whoopings at elite level or super dominant victories in their pocket. Usyk does not have any.

People go too overboard with recent bias Usyk is a great for sure but he's not even close to being the GOAT he's not even rated higher than Holyfield who has a considerably better resume.

 

But you’re talking Super Heavyweights there.

He’s beaten, albeit from a poor HW era, the best there is, whilst dealing with an enormous height, weight, reach disadvantage.

He’s absolute mustard and H2H with anyone, I’d love to see it.

 

Just so I'm not derailing the appreciation thread the number 1 Cruiserweight of all time top 15 Heavyweight of all time probably higher in a H2H regard and i'd say top 35 of all time aswell.

Immensely skilled very likable personality and doesn't shy away from a challenge even in the other fighters backyard what's not to like ?
