Would you be interested in seeing these two fight at 200 pounds? I would be. I'd favor Usyk. Would not be surprised if Beterbiev forces him into some very uncomfortable moments and exchanges though. If Beterbiev lands on Usyk he will hurt him.
Seen it twice before, Usyk won both times without any controversy. Bring on the third. Beterbiev has degraded physically, Usyk has not. It would look similar to the Bivol fight, only with Beterbiev never really finding his groove and Usyk winning by knockout in 8 or 9 rounds. Because Usyk is levels above Bivol and unlike Beterbiev, a natural Cruiserweight that would rehydrate up to a full fledged Heavyweight.
I do agree that Beterbiev has degraded physically because he's about to turn 40. He's slightly older than Usyk and has lost a step. But so has Usyk. He is about to turn 38 and he's definitely not as quick or sharp as he once was. It would be two guys who aren't as sharp as they once were. And Beterbiev has that power.
I don't think that current Beterbiev can pressure Usyk as well as the young one. but i don't think the 2 fights that i saw were anywhere near as clear cut as folks are making them out to be. IMO they were very very close fights. Prime for prime, the Beterbiev that beat Gvozdyk would have a almost 50-50 shot vs the Usyk that fought Breidis. Beterbiev has the same kind of power and right hand as Breidis, an almost equally good chin, and even greater physical strength and greater ability to pressure people. Beterbiev is a hard stylistic match up for Usyk. I do think Usyk's grit and toughness, plus his superior size, would allow him to take over late and win a close decision. But its nowhere near as one sided as folks are making it out to be, Prime Beterbiev vs Prime Usyk - 55-45 in favour of Usyk at cruiserweight. Very hard fight for Usyk. Now? Usyk by late stoppage. Beterbiev can't pressure him without running into big counters. Beterbiev has lost a step and that would play a big role vs the bigger taller man.
Usyk has that chin, Dubois, Chisora, Gassiev, Briedis, Joshua and Fury couldn't make a dent him him, Beterbiev's shots will feel like feather dusters, the few that actually land.
Beterbiev degrading physically matters more though. Because he has to pursue the taller man, which would mean he is going to run into big shots that the younger version might have been able to avoid while marching forward.
Beterbiev stunned him in the amateurs so it didn't look like it felt like feather dusters. Beterbiev, prime version, would be able to throw more and land a lot more than Joshua or Fury. Especially without head gear and big amateur gloves.
Barely, and even if Beterbiev manages to stun him, Usyk is far more elusive than he was then, especially when hurt.
usyk beats the crap out of him. beves strengths are his toughness and heavy hands. but hes tough and powerful against light heavies, not guys who are tough and powerful at hw. skillwise they are levels apart. usyk is too hard to hit, and beve is too easy.
I can't add anything more to this. I think the fight would sell well especially if Beterbiev beats Bivol in the rematch but I would much rather see Uysk fight Jai.
Beterbiev has the style to trouble usyk at cruiserweight but now usyk is to big and to good. Both have out of world stamina Usyk would outbox him now pretty clearly
