Chavez was miles better at not murdering and physically abusing women, so I’ll go with him.

That has nothing to do with their in-ring quality.

And Chavez is a coke snorting, alcoholic womanizer with cartel connections. Not as bad as Monzon, but hardly one of boxing's good guys.

For the record, I have Monzon for both.

Monzon had a deeper resume, and quality wise, Monzon's style - while not as sexy as JCC's - was harder to neutralize.

I think it could be argued that Chavez should be considered overall greater based on his consistent success across multiple weight classes, but Monzon was better/greater than Chavez ever was w/in a single weight class.

Arguments can be made for both sides. And honestly these are two of my favorite fighters. But Carlos was the greatest middleweight ever and JCC was moving up through the divisions to an unflattering 147 not quite staking his claim anywhere. While I think that Chavez was near unbeatable at 135 (but only stayed there for a cup of coffee), I have to go with Monzon

I don’t know of any instances of JCC ever beating a woman, much less murdering one, so your attempt to throw dirt on him (Monzon was a drug user and heavy drinker too) comes across as kneejerk.

And I don’t see anything about substantial cartel connections (they admired him, came to the Camacho fight, he was at a party with them later, demanded they produce some cocaine and they got it for him — doesn’t sound like he was running drugs or guns for them or anything, lol). Just an attempt to deflect in defense of your boy Carlos.

Monzon was a murderer who beat women. He got weekend passes from jail to go out and party. Ironic that that’s what led to his death.

JCC has a better and deeper resume imo too. Fought more top fighters across more divisions (he’s probably top 10 all-time in three, or at least two and in the discussion in another) while Monzon reigned over a good but not great era of middleweights. He was also a boring-ass fighter.

Yeah, we all know the Monzon story. We arent boxing novices. It matters nothing to this comparison and adds nothing to the conversation. If you can't separate the fighter from the man outside the ring, then that's a you problem.

Also, Monzon being "boring" (and that's a matter of opinion, I didn't find him boring) is a pretty poor argument as well.

There is so little between these two that i would not even argue over it, personally. Pick your favorite.

Monzon by a clear margin for me in terms of resume and skill. Great as Chavez was he hasn’t beaten anyone as good as Emile Griffith or Jose Napoles.
