Again,to the elders of the classic forum,I apologize from my idiocy, but I do want to see some different takes from others,I saw a mate saying Duran was overrated and hsi prime lasted till 37,and I want to find out here:who would actually think like that...in this forum?
1/ The best Lightweight ever? 2/ An all time great? 1/ Arguably yes. Certainly Top 3. 2/ It's definitely a YES from this corner. No doubt whatsoever.
I could kinda smell it too,but knowing there's definitely some people in this forum, that had bit o' unique way of thinking...
Hi Buddy. I am going to find this difficult because you are a new member, and relatively young, and we have had some nice chats over your short time here, BUT honestly " is Duran an ATG " I mean, not sure where to begin, you must know all about his achievements, how revered he is in the pantheon of great fighters, you have champions, very good champions, great champions, and then the Durans of the boxing world, like the SRR , like the Grebs, the Armstrongs, fighters that tower above the rest, their names shorten your breath, you shake your head left to right, in some cases you wish you were born decades earlier, you stick up for them and fight their corner like they were family, you can't understand why others see things differently, what is there agenda you muse, maybe I am biased, when you grow up reading about, then seeing your favourite fighters, it clouds your judgment, if that's the case I am guilty as charged, a few weeks ago other posters questioned Durans standing much to my chagrin, sorry young man I don't mean to come down on you, but reading your post bemused me somewhat, or maybe an old man being too sensitive. stay safe FT, and I genuinely look forward to your future postings, and nice friendly chats with you, you seem a nice guy. Mike.
It's alright pops,I didn't actually doubt Duran much, but looking at some other comments on Duran..I wanna see, what does the people of this forum thought of 'im.
He's overrated and the sheer number of knowledgeable posters who want to entertain every excuse he ever came out with to explain away losses is hugely concerning, but he's obviously an ATG. C'mon mate.
The amount of people saying he's overrated is one thing that makes me want to make this thread, again, what does they truly mean if an overrated but ATG?
Because some posters want to believe he was unbeatable if properly prepared and won't credit Leonard, Benitez or even Hearns for having defeated excellent versions of him. Duran achieved so much in so many divisions across multiple decades, that he's a stonewall ATG, even if I do personally think he's mythologised to absurd degrees.
