What short (under 5'9") WWs would you favor over Hearns?

Hearns may not have had as long a run or as deep a resume as other greats under 147, but I think he was a h2h powerhouse @that weight, & would be particularly nightmarish for any short-ish (cuevas-sized or less) WW. I don't think I would give any WW not named Sugar Ray a better than 50-50 prospect vs. Hearns, let alone 1 that was vertically challenged.

What, if any, sub-5'9" WWs would you favor over Hearns?

Barbados Walcott sounds like the type of fight a circus would produce but he did have all the attributes to beat Hearns. He was arguably the hardest hitter welterweight’s ever seen.

    Nobody!

Too much speed, power and reach.

If you have to throw names out there, I suppose Mickey Walker and Barbados Joe Walcott, given the right ruleset and refereeing leniency, are as good as any.

Hagler was 5'8 and seem to do just fine. You don't need height to beat Hearns so long as you have a chin and good pressure fighting ability.

It Mickey Walker had the PEDs that Hearns era had, I would pick him over Hearns at 147

How do you know Tommy was on PEDs?

You can't throw around accusations like that without proof. :ohno

As for the question Tommy would demolish any and every welterweight not called Sugar Ray let alone those under 5ft 9.

Walker would have a small chance but I would not bet on it.

The proof is that every world class athlete since the 70s at the latest have been on them and it's impossible to be at the top without it, also the drug testing straight up didn't exist for most of his prime and by the 90s the testing was a total joke to get around. Welcome to reality. All top athletes use drugs and lie about it or don't talk about it.

Hagler also had long arms. He had an inch more reach than the 6'1 Barkley, and we saw that he was able to catch Hearn's with shots that smaller fighters wouldn't have.

in the Past Tommy would NEVER have seen WW, as a young fighter he might have passed through it, but he would have fought as a middle cum L-HW...

the average Welterweight up until say the 1960s anyway, was eitherside of 5'7" (tall skinny guys excluded), so the Truth is Tommy wouldn't be fighting WW's in historical mythical matches - Stature wise for comparisons he'd be fighting the Great MW and L-HW's.

he was at least 5'9" + a MW w/ a 75-inch reach. He doesn't meet either criteria for this thread.

Ray Leonard was 5'9" and towered over Hagler. Stared at the top of his bald head. Hagler's real height was closer to 5'7".

Leonard was at least 5'10" & only appeared to be about an inch taller than Hagler. Antuofermo was around 5'8" & Hagler was visibly at least an inch taller than him.

Leonard at least 5'10???? I didn't know they stacked **** that high.

Leonard admitted he wasn't even a legit 5'9. Hagler is 5'7.

Hagler was stronger, more muscular than any welter in history and had a 75 inch reach, Tommy only struggled with bigger fighters with long reaches cause he was a weight bully, Leonard was a big welter with a 74 inch reach.
