Catchweights are all well and good but in today's era when there's 24 hours to rehydrate they can be misleading.. one of the things what made Hopkins special was his conditioning and the way he lived and kept himself in fighting shape though.. but I still think he was a big MW.. wouldn't be suprised if he hydrated a lot overnight.. consider that for the Pavlik & Tarver fights he was 180lbs in the ring.

Pacquiao was clearly ahead of Mayweather all time before their fight. He lost to Mayweather fair and square but the third win over Bradley and the win over Thurman(an absolute classic) along with solid wins over Broner and Vargas elevated Pacquiao above Mayweather again.Even the knockdown laden win over a declining Lucas Matthysse was more significant than Mayweather wins over McGregor and Berto.Berto was unranked at the time and Mayweather was 1/100 to win,it was also a stinker of a fight worse than Hopkins vs Jones 2.

Tarver wasn’t at his best either after he spent so long preparing for the Rocky Balboa movie so that fight would’ve been much closer in different circumstances.

Hopkins was 168lbs on fight night vs Taylor, at the age of 40! Most world ranked middleweights today likely weight more than him.

Pac | Floyd - i find it very hard to separate them
    Usyk
    Hopkins

Of all of them though Usyk has the least amount of asterisks on his resume - but it's also a much smaller resume too.

Usyk has the better achievements though Undisputed Cruiser > Undisputed Heavy is hard for lower wight fighters like Floyd and Pac to get close to IMO

Actually, Hopkins often entered the ring weighing only a few lbs over the MW limit, which is why when he made his voyage up to LHW, Lampley and Merchant were shocked to see him rehydrate to the 180s. At 28 minutes in, Lampley states that Hopkins weighed in at 169lbs for the ODLH fight, when Hopkins was over 40. He weighed only 166lbs against Echols in their first fight, and weighed 168 and 169 respectively in both Pascal fights. He regularly weighed in at the mid-160s for HBO's unofficial ring-weights during his MW reign.

You can boot Jermain Taylor out of that list of fighters. Two great wins over Hopkins, precious little apart from that.

Germany got to the 2002 World Cup final after beating Paraguay,USA and South Korea. All 1-0 wins too,and that didn’t mean they were a great side.

I thought he did look undersized at LHW, he looked like the smaller guy in most of his fights.

I get how you feel, but I would like to say, CW and HW are two of the smaller divisions (about the same size as 118 and 122) by number of fighters. Despite that CW to HW has been successful twice in the past 40 years, nobody else has done what Pacquiao did

Eastman was a good fighter. Talented and tough, but a bit erratic. He was on a pretty good run when Hopkins beat him. He 's no ATG but he was, at that time, a good fighter and a perfectly acceptable opponent.

What a great group of choices. For me, the indomitable Bernard Hopkins is last on this list which shows the great quality.

I went with Manny Pacquiao. For me, those world titles in eight weight classes is stunning and extraordinarily hard to top. That being said, if you were to choose Mayweather or Usyk I would whole-hearted understand and respect your choice.
