Because, Fury was a champ and considered #1 up until the Usyk loss. If I'm not mistaken, Usyk and Fury were 1 and 2 going into the rematch. Do you have Fury ranked below Joshua?
Fury was considered #1 when he first fought Usyk. I think that was based on being Undefeated and having a title as well as for his past wins. Some of that is based off rivals losing rather than all of what he had done. I felt he was #1 before facing Usyk (champion), but after the loss felt it was a bit of a reshuffle based on how monthly ratings change based on results. Below is based on the last 2 years Fury's last 4 fights is Loss - Usyk Loss - Usyk Ngannou SD Chisora when Chisora was 1-3 in his last 4 fights Dubois last 4 fights Joshua Hrgovic Miller Loss - Usyk Fury hasn't beaten any top 10 rated HWs in over 2 years where Dubois has beaten 2 in that time In current personal monthly ratings I have Fury above Joshua Historically I think it is debatable I would struggle to pick
Fury could outbox Dubious half naked wearing a blindfold and one arm tied behind his back Even this regressed Fury has enough stamina and footspeed to be able to play around with Dubious. Dubious and AJ are plodders, plodders cannot beat Usyk or Fury excluding a minimal punchers chance. Dubious would walk into something early against Fury that would make him settle down pretty quickly. This content is protected
Your perspective is a good one for sure. But, if you look at it from the perspective that Fury went 24 rounds with the #1 HW in the world, while Dubios couldn't last 12, I think Fury deserves to stay at #2 until removed by Dubios or someone else. Just because Dubios may be the most deserving to get another shot at Usyk, doesn't necessarily mean he is the #2. guy. IMO
I get what you mean about beating someone to be rated above, but - let's say Fury spends another 2 years of not fighting or beating any top 10 rated contenders and Dubois beats another 2 top 10 rated opponents that are not called Fury, you would never be able to rate anyone else above? - You point to the difference in performances against Usyk, which i think can be misleading especially as Fury has had 2 attempts and looked more hurt to me in the first fight than I thought Dubois was. If say Fury beats Joshua next and on points, would you have Dubois below? (Consider for example how D Alexander looked against Maidana compared to F Mayweather when comparing for ratings. It can be misleading) - Fury has had 2 attempts at beating Usyk. If Dubois was to rematch Usyk, knocked him down and loses a very close fight, how would you rate them then? I was throwing out a few questions just to get a feel for how others rate and why
note that I listed Fury and Dubois. AJ getting blown out by Dubois makes me think that despite the huge difference in experience, Ituama might have a chance. Thing is though, Ituama’s chin hasn’t been tested, and although AJ is looking like a glass cannon, don’t forget the cannon part of that. Not sure it’s a good idea to send a guy that green in against a real puncher.
Ngannou is a grizzled veteran of combat sports. And look what happened when he faced his first puncher inside of a ring. Ituama has more boxing experience, but is MILES behind Ngannou in terms of combat sport experience. Ngannou had his chin tested many times. Had been hurt, had to recover and push past it. He had all of that experience. And it didn’t matter worth a damn against an experienced operator who can bang, ended up with a scary KO.
That's part of the beauty and curse of boxing isn't it? Subjectivity that promotes debate and or disagreement. Like I said, I'm not saying you're wrong in ypu assessment. I just view Fury's ranking a little different. Just so ypu know, I do not like Fury in the least. LOL
Look how open he was Terrible stance and technique, he made it far worse for himself with that No idea how Moses takes a real punch, true but I get the impression he isn't here to Let anyone find out He himself has said going toe to toe isn't on his plans AJ could KO him but I'd put money on it it wouldn't be like the MMA guys attempt
I'd still back Fury to beat Dubois if they fought. Fury can be a clown in there, but I think unlike AJ, he does have a brain and would be able to nulify Dubois' offence and frustrate him.
The Fury that lost to Uysk twice I think would beat Dubois. One thing about Fury is that you are not going to discourage him. Dubois has been discouraged multiple times by two stylistic foils. Fighting someone with the you won't keep me down attitude like Fury would be a disaster for him. Fury isn't fragile of mind at all, really of body either.
Fury hasn't taken a punch of Dubious's calibre since Wilder But Wilder was blink of an eye fast, Fury can see everything Dubious is doing. Even if dubious fought the perfect gameplan Fury would be able to box him off down the stretch AJ bricked himself against Dubious and everyone with insight knew Dubious could beat the bodybuilder to the jab early and make him fall apart as he did. I think even AJ knew and was hoping to drag it out then engage later but Dubby had already daddied him at that point.
Fury still the best and possibly Dubois 2nd but only due to nobody else ready for the top. I'm still not sold on this new Dubois. I still think he's a limited fighter with decent power. For me Hrgovic defeated himself against Dubois but was still a good win. Beating Joshua was massive for Dubois and he definitely deserves credit for demolishing Joshua. I just don't think that fight showed us this progression some are saying he's made. He's still the Dubois who barely laid a glove and was stopped by Usyk. I don't see Dubois being a long reigning champ.
