Who’s comparable to Derek Chisora?

Carl Morris debuted in 1910 and was fighting guys like Mike Schreck and Jim Flynn within a year. He continued to fight top level heavies, Luther McCarty, Gunboat Smith, Willard, Fulton, Flynn more times, Roedel, Dempsey 3x, Levinsky, Moran, Miske, some of these guys several times, finishing his career late in 1922 with a KO win over Tut Jackson, proving he was still dangerous, then a loss to Fulton. I have read that he was notoriously unreliable but somehow still got top level fights because he was big, durable and had plenty of pop.

 

Ferguson is another good pick, especially with that late win over Ray Mercer.

 

Quarry had over a decade at contender level.

Pulev and Povetkin have also done it over a similar time frame as Chisora.

 

Mike Weaver was giving guys decent fights into his 40s, beat prime Bert Cooper at 41.
Not a heavyweight, but Carl Thompson at crusierweight.

 

A lot of heavies from the early 1900s spring to mind

Someone like Jim Flyn or George Gardener are pretty good shouts

 

In some ways he reminds me of teh black fighters of the color line era, who knew that they might never be champions, so came up with a plan to get rich that did not depend upon them being champion.

Chisora has been enormously successful financially, albeit we don't know at what cost to his long term health.

Perhaps Battling Jim Johnson would be a good analogy.

 

I was going to say that his career was somewhat comparable to Mike Weavers but without the belt. Since we’re not using belt holders as comparables then we might have to go back further in time to find someone more like him. Perhaps a Paulino Uzcadun or someone similar

 

Tony Thompson maybe? Fringe contender who picked up some decent wins in his 40s.

 

Uzcudun is a good catch. Career spanning from 1923 to 1935 with a litany of good names on his record. Risko, Schmeling, Carnera, Baer, Loughran, Levinsky, Schaaf, and of course, Louis, too. Add onto that his great chin, and I think there's a near perfect comparison between him and Chisora.
