He's a divisive figure. But if he does bow out, will you miss him? For me, right now, no. He has been in some good fights and provided entertainment. Over many years. And, like him or not, he certainly got fans talking. HOWEVER over time I got very tired of the Fury circus ... the lies, the gaslighting, the meaningless fights, the big talk but failure to back it up. I also really dislike his refusal to accept he lost to Usyk with any grace. Fury used to be amusing and entertaining. In the end he became unlikable and obnoxious. I liked him once but, as a fan, I became so tired of his shtick and, most importantly, I think he ultimately became bad for boxing (Chisora 3 \ Ngannou era). I suppose it's possible I might miss him. But, right now, I will be glad of a loooong break.
Not really, no. There’s been better champions and he clogged up the division for way too long. I also think his schtick is old, tired and no longer amusing.
Fury backed up a lot of his big talk. He talked s*** to Vlad as a 5-1 underdog, went in and won a lopsided UD in Vlad's backyard. No one believed him. He said he'd give Wilder a boxing lesson in the first fight and no one believed him (I definitely didn't). He then did just that. He said he'd walk forward, beat up and stop Wilder in the second fight and no one believed him. Same stuff. The reason he's still very famous is that he has the skills to pay the bills. Everyone knows it, so everyone turns up on fight night, even the haters. The HW scene will miss him dearly as there isn't a personality like his and won't be for a long time.
As a fan, no because he was frustrating Like your man above, he can box and when he fought the right opponents I supported him, but he has had too many dud fights Ironically I'm not an Aj fan, but he did try to fight stronger opponents more often He will be back, but I hope he doesn't. A waste of talent. He could have been so much more if he wasn't afraid of losing Let's face it, he bottled the wlad rematch. Fury can't handle the pressure of being top dog. If everyone doubted him vs Aj he would be back tomorrow, as he can't handle the pressure of being favourite For all his balls in the ring, he did too much crap out of it. I know this is harsh, but he could have been more, had he shown a little more discipline and courage out of the ring
For a genuinely unstable guy, he achieved a lot. I would have taken 100-1 odds he wasn't coming back after his 400lb coke days.
Yes that was amazing, it gets overlooked, but amazing accomplishment But for every great thing, there is WAY too much crap imo. He had no need to fight chisora for a 3rd time and Ngannou was also a joke, especially how he turned up
I take your point. But he failed to back up his big talk much more often than he actually delivered it. Much more. Some examples off the top of my head ... He'd fight David Price, he fight a Wlad rematch, he'd fight for free before charging PPV for Chisora 3, he'd fight AJ, he'd NEVER fight Usyk because he's foreigner, Ngannou was a fight fans wanted to see etc.. And the ultimate one, of course, that he was the greatest HW of all time. Don't get me wrong ... most fighters talk themselves up. It's part of the game to an extent. But because he did it SO much people stopped believing him. He took it all too far and paid the price with the fan backlash
Nope. He wasted the divisions time plenty as it is. Dragged the Wlad rematch, and then retired. Came back only to drag out a Wilder trilogy for 3 years. Then tried his best to make easy money, until eventually fighting Usyk. If only Fury had stuck around after the Wlad fight, it would have been so damn interesting.
In the ring - I'll miss watching his fights live as he was always good entertainment, I really enjoyed all his big fights bar Chisora 3. Out of the ring - he just takes the mickey too much when he doesn't need to, constantly lying, holding up the division, etc. Trash-talking I do get as they need to promote their own fights.
No. He wore out his welcome a long time ago for me with the doping, layoffs and cherrypicking/gaslighting his fan base.
If you're actually burnt up about Fury-Price not happening I'm just happy we have such hardcore fans on the site. If you paid for Chisora III I'm sorry. AJ with the glass jaw and mediocre skills didn't fight Wilder OR Fury, but it's always everyone else's fault huh...four losses and counting He did fight Usyk, twice Ali fought circus fights, too I'm never going to be mad at a fighter for thinking they're the GOAT. You need to be deluded to become champ.
