Word on the street fast runners can gave Canelo issues.

Canelo Alverez - height and reach: 5'7½/70½ inches

Shakur Stevenson - height and reach: 5'8/68 inches

Shakur doesn`t have the power to keep Canelo off, he`s never been in at that level, picture Shakur against Canelo`s opposition, GGG would have destroyed Shakur, it will be just like the Amir Khan fight.

The main question is, how attractive is Shakur Stevenson?

Canelo gets a lot crap, sometimes warranted, but the guy gives up some size and reach in this higher divisions

He may pick his fights, but look at his resume. He has been in with more great fighters than any current fighter, never been stopped. The guy may be a diva, but he's a beast. He would absolutely crush Shakur

I will get flamed for this, but Canelo is an ATG imo

Anyone who knows anything about boxing knows he’s an ATG. Yeah he was caught using steroids and had him luck with some decisions but so have many other great fighters

    Is this a serious discussion?

Shakur will more than likely have his best years as a welterweight. Maybe a few great moments at jr. middleweight. But that years down the line. No way in hell do those 2 ever cross paths beyond events like the one they attended or casual bumping into each other.

This shouldn't even be a subject. Boxing really needs to get it's feet moving on these fights. The fans seem to be just saying anything in these forums......lol.

That's true bro, but he's also hated on here because GGG is many guys favourite fighter on this forum

He's definitely an ATG and if he isn't? Well there aren't too many greats currently

“ fans seem to be just saying anything in these forums”. I’ll agree with that. A ridiculously silly hypothetical matchup. Might as well ask could Atom Ant compete with Superman? But also thinking your comment that Shakur will have his best yrs at WW and Jr Mid is equally silly. He has no pop, strength or size to compete w top dogs in those divisions. Based on his lack of power, he’d have a very difficult time securing the top spot at 140. I acknowledge his talent but he is primarily defensive minded and just plain awful to watch. I’m not convinced he’s even the best at 135. He is no Pernel Whitaker.

No, he's not bigger, he's just taller. Bigger is such a vague descriptive term. Size is more than just height. It's a combination of several factors to consider. At 5'10" and 170, no one in their right mind would say I was bigger than a 5'8", 168 pound Canelo.

The only Stevenson that would have given Canelo problems is Adonis Stevenson

You don't have to be a heavy puncher to excel at 147lbs. And I also need to point out that Shakur isn't some pillow fisted fighter. He just happens to be more defensive than he needs to be most times. When you see you have someone hurt, get them out of there. That's the one factor he's not picking up from his mentor (Bud Crawford) and his peer (Keyshawn Davis). But the skill set is there. I'm not sure if you've ever been around him in person, but I have multiple times and he's not a small guy. 135 is no where near where he walks around at.

Last I saw him in person was at Crawford's parade they have for him in Omaha, NE after the Undisputed fight vs Spence. As a trainer I can easily see him putting on good weight/muscle over the course of his career. He has the frame for it. And as long as you don't go passed your limit, less weight draining will make you stronger in the ring. Look at Terence Crawford as he went from 135 to 140 and 147.

I in no way compared him to Sweet P (one of my top 5 favorites). I simply said that he's best performances will be at that division as I feel like we have yet to see him and other young fighters showcase their best. Nothing more.

yes. he is a bigger man with heavier bones and tendons, stripped down to his bare essentials, including water, and not just surface fat but fat in the muscles, in order to weigh what you weigh. you can tell the difference when you poke a finger into his biceps and one into guys like us. what you carry vertically, and with softer tissue, he carries in other dimensions and with harder tissue. a lot of people dont consider what that means in a real fight.
