Hmm? Bivins in his career beat: Charlie Burley Bob Pastor Joey Maxim Ezzard Charles Lloyd Marshall Archie Moore Lee Savold Gus Lesnevich and others,,, Lost a SD to Jersey Joe Walcott and went the distance losing a decision to,,,,,Joe Louis' Beterbiev has beaten who?,,,Bivol? There's nothing in his resume that points to Beterbiev ,a fighter in his late 30's winning, he gets taken to school.
I think Beter poses an interesting challenge for many LHWs, given that he's able to generate hurtful power even w/ little "arm" punches. Having said that, w/ such a sparse resume, it's difficult to assess the full extent of his h2h potential. @ the very least, Bivins deserves the benefit of the doubt if nothing else IMO.
Bivins can’t keep Beterbiev off him, Bivins fought like an octopus would be the best way to describe it, Beterbiev gets into mid range and with the shorter punches, beats him to the punch there and roughs him up, Bivins also didn’t have sharp enough straight, long punches or the ability to time hard punches when guys are on the way in.
Hi Buddy. Good idea to list the very good, and truly great fighters Bivins had wins over, seems to me that Beterbiev over the last couple of years or so as take on near mythical status, recent posts discussing whether he could have beaten Louis opponents, where does that come from ! for what it's worth I thought his win/fight with Bivol was underwhelming, he seems to favour throwing short clusters of punches with not an immense lot of power behind them, that despite his overall KO percentage, this early praising a fighter to the rafters could also apply to both AJ and Fury to a degree, maybe it's me, I get fed up with this premature placing of current fighters, you cannot seriously put the 2 brits in the same sentence / bracket as the likes of : Louis. Marciano, Ali, Lewis, Frazier, Holmes, et al, I would even go as far to say I think the likes of Quarry, Norton, Lyle, Bonavena, would give our boys fits, and possible get a win or two amongst them, oh well, spleen vented. stay safe buddy, chat soon.
Joe Louis couldn't get Bivins outta there...neither could Walcott. and Bivins beat some decent to good heavyweights has Beterbiev?
Joe Louis was 37, in lots of debt and only fighting for the money with no motivation to win. Walcott was different stylistically to Beterviev, he wasn’t as good at getting into mid range to force exchanges and had much longer arms than Beterbiev. I also didn’t say Beterviev would stop Bivins.
Walcott hit harder than Beterbiev,, For me it's simple, Beterbiev doesn't nearly have the resume to think he'd beat a fighter with Bivins record. His resume consists of one substantial win, Bivol. And that fight wasn't all that. And on a further note I'd pick Bivins to thrash Bivol in a 15 rounder
Beterbiev doesn’t need to hit as hard as Walcott to beat him, he has his own skill set and certainly has enough power to hurt Bivins and at least get his respect. Beterbiev is bigger than Bivins, can close the ring off very well, takes away a jab and can get in range behind educated pressure using and offensive jab and taking his head off the centre line as he attacks, Bivins can’t fight Beterbiev off or grab him, Beterbiev is stronger and if Bivins tried to fight Beterbiev off, he’d eat a short punch in the trades. Bivins punched like an octopus and couldn’t shorten up his punches because of that, he wasn’t the worst on the inside, but for him, it’d be a terrible idea to trade with Beterbiev, and like I said, he isn’t keeping it on the outside because of Beterbiev’s ability to take away the jab, close off the ring or get inside. In summary, Beterbiev will take away his jab and long punches, and once he does that, Bivins has nothing to keep him off because of his lack of strength relative to him, and also since he’s much worse at shortening up his punches than Beterbiev.
Bivins might not have been a dynamite puncher, but he wasn't featherfisted either. He has KO/stoppage wins over hofers Moore & Marshall & dropped/hurt other elite fighters like Charles(multiple times), Lesnevich, Mauriello, & Christoforides.
Louis had lost his power by the time he fought Bivins. He doesn't get credit for being able to survive 1942 Louis. The thing about this is Bivins fought in an era where 175/HW combo fighters were common. In the 1940s Beterbiev would be a HW.
