Sadly the casuals will lap it up. I've said on here before, the first fight had been loaded with idiots like Love Island contestants doing a 'red carpet' (kind of like the "grand arrivals" Saudi put on now for each big card) which shows you the audience it's appealing to. The mainstream will pick it up and off go the PPV sales - Matchroom aren't daft.
Yeah I'm not interested either but it's a casuals dream to the wider market and people will lap it up. There was loads of non boxing fans interested first time round and that will only have grown since. I think they'll sell it out no bother unless it's absurdly priced.
Fight will do very well I just hope it's the final pay day for Benn and he fades in to obscurity afterwards
Nothings changed since that very first discussion. These fighters still aren,t fighting each other without big money. Most cv,s for about ten years we,re full of wins against no hopers sitting about waiting on a big money fight in the end peoples interest in boxing was non existent and careers wasted. Then they started making more ppv,s or the saudi arabian fella started funding it and now the bigger fights are happening much more frequently. Boxings gaining more interest since. Doesnt really matter what camp your in favour of. The reality is without ppv or the saudi fella.....the games dead. Your problem is in your mind these fighters are going to start taking big fight after big fight for mediocre money if theres no ppv or saudi fella even though they clearly didnt for ten years straight before they started making ppv lower than just the elite fights. The reality is still the same if the boxing fan or the saudi fella arent funding the sport....the sports pretty much dead outside the top fighters. The rest of them just wait about hoping to get a fight with them few moneymakers. Although i refuse to pay for a benn fight. You dont pick up boxing late in the day...turn up looking ordinary.....before one punching ex world champions without some additional help.
Very good. You literally must see how many fights we,re now getting. How many fights the top ten are having lets say at heavyweight? Fury v usyk twice. Usyk v joshua twice. Joshua v dubois. Usyk v dubois. Dubois v parker. Parker v everyone. Joyce v the chinese fella. Chisora v everyone. Fury v wilder. Wilder v the chinese fella and parker. Just completely ridicules what your saying. The game doesnt move quick enough without ppv. The saudi fellas moved it on further again. But thats a one off situation someone chucking vast wealth at it. Outside of that your options are pretty much watching slow moving careers....wasting most of them holding out for a big money fight or pay your money and have a faster paced sport. I know that because thats exactly what happened.
The world should want a Eubank jnr win as Benn is an odious creature. his fake aggresive character 24/7 is about as genuine as defence in the drugs test.
Now this fight has been made without any official statement from the drug testing authorities clearing Benn, we should all refer to Turkey now as His Eggscellency.
Is this one really a stadium fight though? Appreciate it’ll do massive numbers on PPV and the casuals will lap it up, but neither guy has ever really been a ticket seller and neither of them seems to particularly have a ‘fanbase’ or anything like that. Has Benn even headlined a card in the UK before? But then again, the Sweet Charlie Caroline and Instagram wannabe crowd are probably desperate for a big ‘event’ like this after only really having Joshua v Dubois and Fury v Chisora over here in the last couple of years. Feels like it’d be the sort of fight that would happen in Saudi anyway rather than over here.
Casuals will love this, boxing fans will watch it we all will. But in all honestly not many are talking about this on social media, I know loads of sports/boxing fans but I don’t know anyone that would fork out to attend.
The 2nd fight will be unfinished business because Benn slipped on Hearn's snake oil on the way to the ring, then the trilogy fight beckons because Benn claimed more unfinished business due to a shortage of eggs in Essex in the lead up to the 2nd fight. Then 30 years from now, both will be together on meet and greet evenings up and down the country reminiscing on how we made millions and millions from the gullible public.
For anyone else who feels Benn should not be fighting, this is the only answer. I would add "don't watch, don't discuss, actively discourage friends and family from watching" to the list too. If enough die-hards stay away it will send a message. Sadly, all parties will already know how big this is going to be. Matchroom will have the data on how quickly the O2 sold last time, and if they're going for a stadium, it's because they know it merits it. Hope the undercard is crap so I can ignore it totally.
