Yes, exactly. But did you notice I mentioned the guys who started at the smaller weights? Pacquiao, Marquez and Guerrero. Yes, Robert Guerrero competed at featherweight until 26th fight of his career. Also, I give Floyd tons of credit for beating Canelo, Cotto and even faded Oscar. But bringing all those guys like Berto, Ortiz, Gatti, shot Mitchell, Jesus Chavez etc as "world champions" is incorrect. Technically they were of course, but in reality they weren't on the same level as some of Ali's contenders who never held the title. Quarry's resume is levels above Berto's or Ortiz's for example. Levels above. And guys like Ellis, Terrell, old Patterson were far superior champs than Berto, Ortiz or old Mitchell.
NoNeck's most loved boxer of all time is Mayweather, while Foreman is the most hated. So he is very biased in this discussion.
And he subsequently improved and went years without losing to anyone c class while stopping Golota in one round who was highly ranked Liakhovich isn't c class in my book don't know what you think
None of that is true. You just start with feelings and then look for justification of those feelings.
He didn't improve he was always limited and relied on his durability the only reason he beat Wladimir is because he could take a good licking and Wladimir punched himself out battering Brewster all over the ring for 4 rounds. Read what I said.....I said Brewster was losing to C class fighters "prior" to Wladimir fight which is why he wasn't getting big fights. You're suggesting he was being avoided who the hell would avoid a Brewster who got beaten up and lost about 18 rounds to Eitenne and Shufford ? How does that even make sense ? As for Golota Brewster was an aggressive fighter early and Golota was vulnerable in the early rounds so that's not too surprising Golota was also a headcase. As for Liakhovich I don't think he was that good....he lost to an ancient Shannon Briggs and never beat anyone that good. So Brewster losing to him decisively shows he's not one of the upper echelon Heavyweights not even close. And that also showed when he went life and death with the likes of Meehan, Krasniqi, Shufford, Eitenne, Brewster probably lost a combined 30 rounds against them. And should've had 3 losses instead of 2 as Meehan clearly beat him and it was a gift decision.
My position is merely that Brewster would likely have more good wins had he been given more opportunities. If you think he didn't deserve them that's fine. Hed also have more losses but overall a deeper resume McCline, Maskaev, Briggs, Barrett seem like winnable fights
I don't think he deserved the big fights at the time and to be honest he wasn't even ranked vs Wladimir and got a shot at title. So that was someone giving him a shot when technically he probably wasn't deserving of one at that point in time. As for winnable fights for Brewster yes I think some of those fighters Brewster could beat but I wouldn't say he would necessarily go undefeated vs them either. You should look at Brewster vs Meehan, Krasniqi, he was very beatable in those fights I think honestly the real stand out attribute Brewster had was his durability. The man could take a hell of a shot and that was by far his strongest attribute how he took the beating vs Meehan in round 8 or 4 rounds of punishment from Wladimir I don't know.
Joe Frazier is a consensus top ten hw atg. Big George bounced him off the canvas, not once but twice.
Mayweather has a history of domestic abuse. That leaves a lot of fighters. It’s just so easy to win these debates because he has the best resume of almost any comparison and people go off their feelings.
Berto, Ortiz, Jesus Chavez, old Mitchell, gatti etc were better than Leon Spinx, Brian London, Henry cooper, Juergen Blin, Jean Coopman, Karl Mildenberger and chuck Wepner. And none of this even takes into account Floyd winning championships in five weight classes and going undefeated.
I'm pretty sure all were worse than prime/off-substanse Spinks. Better than Blin, Coopman, London? Of course, but did I bring their names here to prove Ali's superiority?
No you only brought the ones that you felt made your case. And Leon Spinks was another one who was only known for beating Ali. Mayweather didn’t need to lose to fighters to make notables out of them. Many did just fine on their own
