Another thing I notice is the British media being dedicated to promoting the British fighters. This has gone on for years (maybe when Eddie hearn started to get involved) on YouTube, but I find my news and YouTube, talk sport etc to be heavily biased to British fighters. I don’t hear about American fighters or see them pop up much in conversation.

With the Saudis backing British boxing, This then creates an illusion that the British fighters are on top of the world. And most are very much not.
For example, I don’t think world boxing is bothered about Benn and Eubank, which has been talked about non stop for years…even though both have been inactive.

TBH Sandman I don't really care about nationality of fighters even though I'm British I wouldn't say I'm a major fan of any British fighter now. And in regards to all my favourite fighters currently none of them are British.

I just think this card in regards to depth and the sheer quality of it in regards to every fight being a world class fight that you wouldn't want to miss for me it's the best in my lifetime by far.

I don't really have a problem with seeing plenty of Brits on big shows although I think it's gone overboard on a couple of occasions. When Fast Eddie signed Canelo he fed him too many Brits as opponents when Canelo provided him with a golden opportunity to make inroads into the US market. That's got nothing to do with the Saudi's, of course. More recently, I think Usyk solely facing Brits is getting a little repetitive. Particularly when a deserving type like Joseph Parker will potentially miss out on a shot at the expense of facilitating yet another rematch with a Britain who has already had a turn. Dubois v Big Bang would have made for a more exciting fight on this show, I reckon.

I'm also a bit tired of Usyk having to rematch every British fighter also and this is coming from a fellow Brit aswell. That's why I'm kinda hoping Parker wins just so we get another stylistic challenge for Usyk and a fresh opponent.

7 out of 10 with no Australians on the show is about as high as the Sandman can go. I think they've got the H/W matchups wrong. Dubois v Big Bang Zhang is a more explosive fight than what they've got on there while Parker v Kabayel would have delivered a fresh opponent for Usyk from a different part of the world.

This site has a heavy British bias among its posters. They hype the brits up and the eastern euros. And that’s cool, there’s a lot of brits and nothing wrong with rooting for the home team. I think it’s part of the ebb and flow of a worldwide sport. But America, Mexico and Puerto Rico are not going to stop churning out talent.

As far as the op goes, I think don king used to put on just as good cards or better back in the 80’s.

I don’t have an issue with any particular party at all.
But together, I’m getting the impression that the GAD’s, catterals etc are becoming the “knowledgable boxing experts” that the average person believes to actually be experts and their opinions to be matter of fact. Their world revolves around British fighters and talking about them as if they are leading the world in the sport.

I have no issue with talk being focused on the British, but it needs to be in a realistic context.

I think the link with the Saudis and the big shows may have “legitimised” this.

like “the biggest fight in boxing is AJ vs fury” or “the biggest fight In boxing is Eubank vs Benn”.
Neither are that important to the sport of boxing. It’s just British media hype and Turki is being wasted on it.

this I think pushes the usyk vs brits stuff, the common talk about how “Brits” give a good atmosphere etc and I don’t believe they do. why are brits more deserving than others.
I am wanting Parker to beat Dubois as if rather watch that fight.

boxing has been going long enough, these uk stadium fights are fairly new and I don’t think anyone used to have an issue with the atmosphere in shows before the supposed “brit takeover”.
HBO, showtime, don king days were top tier.

Good post. Most of the best fighters are generally from the American continents (USA, PR, Mexico) but the British media and promotors ignore this, which means turki does, which means the shows are just for Britain and not true to the sport of best fighting best (only if one is a Brit)

don king imo was the best promoter. His shows I believe were better, with more talent. HBO Days were a prime era.

Take away Stevenson vs Schofield and yes, it is the best card ever hands down. This particular fight though might be one of the most boring fights of the decade though. Well, I guess it was added to this card for people to take like 50 minutes break for dinner between really good fights

    How’s this for a card?
    Chavez vs Frankie Randall
Azuma Nelson vs Jesse James leija
    Gerald McClellan vs Julian Jackson
    Ricardo Lopez vs kermin guardia
    Simon brown vs terry Norris
    Meldrick Taylor vs chad Broussard

    or this one
    Chavez vs Duplessis
    Tyson vs Ruddock
    Simon brown vs Maurice blocker
    Roberto Duran vs pat lawlor
    Greg page vs mark young
    Bernard Hopkins vs Steve Langley

you think we’ll get that many hof’ers and fight of the year candidates out of this card? Those cards were on a whole other level.

Donald King put on some great cards but this card is right up there with the best of them

We have Chechen Russians, half Korean/half Moldovan Kyrgyzstan born Russians, Kiwi Samoans, Uzbekistanis, Brits - British Pakistanis, British Ghanaians, Chinese, Dominicans, German Kurds, Americans - Mexican Americans etc. Boxing has gone truly global

This is why I’m not sure on this “best card ever”

it’s a good card, don’t get me wrong, but this “best card in history” being repeated to us on every media outlet is a bit sus to me. It’s like the opinion is being shoved onto us.

I believe it’s a very good card, but best in history? No. Simply because as you’ve pointed out, we had cards with several hof’ers in good fights.

I’m not really that bothered about some of the fights on this card due to who the fighters are (not that interested in Sheraz or buatsi yet), and there’s only really the main event that has hof’ers in. Im tight with time as I work on the road, so choose my tv time selectively lol.
