Look, Fury had the flu and covid when he fought Nganou. He had gout, in his knees, bunions on both big toes, a tummy ache with liquid dookie, his wife was mad, his baby was lost, he was hung over and going through cocaine withdrawal. But if he was 100% he would have boxed the ears off that guy with one hand tied to one foot. LOL

    Ps.

These things only affect Fury because he's so mentally strong.

A mentally weaker fighter like... Let's say... Wladamir Klitschko? A guy like that would be TOTALLY unaffected by such home troubles and would definitely perform at his absolute best.

    Enigma.

    You’re right. My bad.

Due to my bias, I disingenuously skipped all those legit qualifiers and extenuating circumstances.

I guess it was obvious that I also left out the 10 pints of beer consumed the night before each and every one of his fights. Belch….

And to be realistic, all other fighters, including Tyson’s opponents, never have/had anything to deal with themselves.

So, their performances are purely judged in absolute terms, and if Tyson beat said fighters, then the credit he receives is absolute, no concessions for his opposition or detractions from Fury wins.

Fantasy Fury beats one and all.

The overly affording hypothetical treatment for his namesake is curiously similar.

Fantasy Tyson beats one and all.

Dream match: Fantasy Tyson vs Fantasy Fury, may the best “imagined” fighter win.

    What a conundrum! :lol::lol::lol:

    Haha…so true.

I liked the too thin followed by the too fat arguments re Usyk 1 and 2 respectively.

There must be a somewhat elusive “just right” weight for Fury - that can only be identified and confirmed after the fact of him actually managing a win.

So circular it makes one dizzy.

Imagine the lead up to Fantasy Tyson against Fantasy Fury. I think that could be the only thing in all of sports better than the fight. LOL

Tbh the only fight that makes sense for Fury to return is either Usyk or the man who beats him to salvage his reputation.

Potentially AJ if the Saudis pay enough

In a weird way, I'm not sure it does - the moments gone.

I'm sure he sees it that way, but... The people who are emotionally invested in him are making the excuses already, just like he did (biased cards, Fury more declined than Usyk, etc) and the realists would see Fury winning a third bout as being third time lucky and furthest from their peaks (and not restore much credit)...
How much would he really gain in the middle ground? I'm not sure it's much.

I think he'll stew on it until it's too late to come back... Or he'll get so desperate for cash he'll be forced into it.

Either way, he ain't getting that reputation back.

He'd have more success than you think in terms of general public perception. People like us tend to be the minority of boxing fans.

If he comes back and does win against a champion it'll be "comeback of the century" all over again from the casual/media perspective. He's far from a spring chicken at the moment himself, and people love a good story.

Although personally I don't think he has the same drive in him anymore to do it. With that much money he'll have other opportunities to cash in if he wants extra cash, fame or attention. No shame in being 2nd best of the era.

I wouldn't be surprised if Fury returned in 5 years and like Larry Holmes gave the last boxing lesson to some highly regarded prospect.

Fury won't be able to resist a plodder. His body might be past it but even at reduced capacity he will be able to beat a plodding bum. There isn't really anything from Fury that shows he has mentally checked out from the game, I'm pretty sure it will retire him but he won't fight dangerous young people who can beat him but he's sparred most these up and comers so he knows full well if he can.
