Tyson, Lewis, Bowe, Holyfield, the Klitschkos, Fury, Usyk, Holmes.

Cooney? Come on. I'll give you Jimmy Young in the 70s, he was slick af but I'm not sure that helps your case since Ali struggled with him. Yeah he was massively overweight, but I think Young would give any Ali all sorts of fits, that guy was a chef's kiss.

Styles make fights. Maybe those guys tou mentioned could beat Usyk, if they did I think their route would be power and relentless aggression, but I can't count Usyk out.

That is a fair point, shame we didn't get to see more Usyk fights at professional. Of course it would depend how he loses. Does someone genuinely beat him at his own game, or expose weaknesses? Or does he lose because of Father Time

Good post. Regarding the weightclasses thing, not sure that's such a big deal. A lot of guys Ali fought would be cruiserweight today.

Not sure why Ali seldom touched the body, but he certainly did in his Liston and Cleveland Williams fights.

Bows is too slow. Fury doesn't hit hard enough. Klitschkos one gasses out and the other is too mechanical. Usyk not fast enough and doesn't hit hard enough although his southpaw stance would make it interesting.
Lewis would be interesting as would Holmes but Holyfield no.

    Joe Frazier X2
    George Foreman
    Sonny Liston X2
    Ken Norton X3

Now go on a list the above mentioned best wins.

    Thanks, good thread.

To me, regardless of hypothetical abilities at Heavyweight, a Cruiserweight will always be that and accomplishments in that class add to p4p resume and not HW resume. I think many of those Cruiserweight fights are applicable for h2h, especially here in classic where many discussion favorites had fight weights ranging from 180-210 lbs-- a perfect LHW/190CW/200CW range. I would definitely think

Ali had a decent poking jab to the body I remember seeing, and also some hooks in the Williams fight, but Cleveland was a sitting duck from the shooting as I recall Chuvalo emphatically stating in the 'Facing Ali' doc.

Beterbiev and Dubois both landed sneaky right hands to the body to hurt Usyk, not sure if that punch would be in Ali's bag. I think those punches indicated to me that Usyk can get dropped but I don't know if he is generally weak there. I think it would be a good fight and Ali could use his speed and timing to win rounds and also sting Usyk

Norton could be a very smart pressure fighter especially considering who was working his corner.
He beat Young who was as slick as they come and it wasn't just pressure it was how he applied it.

Why can't you simply answer my question? Why did those huge men get dropped or KOd so many times by smaller men?

Ali never went to the body too much. What he was known for were multiple combinations and not just 2 punches 3,4,5, punch combinations and he could do it all night.
Now mix in his foot speed and a granite chin and along with crazy stamina and you have a hard match up.
I think Usky vs Byrd would have been a fascinating fight.

Whether Ali fought 1 southpaw, zero southpaws, or a million southpaws, it doesn't change the fact a southpaw isn't going to have an easy time landing a left hook from the southpaw stance on an Orthodox opponent simply because of body mechanics and positioning. Usyk would not be able to exploit Ali's weakness to left hooks with his left straight because those are two vastly different punches.

Why are you avoiding my question and the basic stats? It feels like you're cherry-picking examples, especially since the overall stats clearly support my point.

A myth is unproven Ali beat over 30 ranked Heavyweights and several top 10 Heavyweights of all time so Ali is the farthest thing from a myth that you could think of.

    I'm watching Ali-Mildenberger again.
The latter's face when the fight was stopped tells the story
