He didn't dominate Porter he was arguably behind on points prior to the stoppage that's why his corner told him to go out and try finish Porter because they thought Crawford was losing on points.
Its like saying Crawfords performance vs Gamboa wasnt impressive. When you are talking about all time greats you nitpick when differentiating their performances.
He was ahead and stopped someone who had never been close to being stopped before The goalpost always get moved with Terence Crawford. Its really incredible.
Crawford was fighting against a fighter that didn't belong at Lightweight and he looked 2 or 3 weightclasses bigger than Gamboa it was a mismatch. I think the problem with you is context......
Gamboa won 2-3 round Crawford dropped Gamboa 4 times and stopped him and this was in 9 rounds vs Mayweather who had 12 and couldnt do either of these things The bigger point isnt to compare the performances but rather to highlight that when you are discussing greats any struggles they have will be magnified
Yes like Mayweather and Marquez when Mayweather didnt even make his own catchweight and purchased a weight advantage. Mayweather never came close to stopping Marquez btw
No Joey you're just talking complete rubbish. Mayweather lost 1 round to Corley and beat him up and won a very lopsided decision. Crawford was fighting against a guy in Gamboa who he was atleast or 2 or 3 weightclasses bigger than who had no business at Lightweight and he was in a back and forth war with him and lost more rounds to Gamboa. Remind me again what's Gamboa's record at Lightweight ? Yeah that's what I thought.
Uhh but I'm not singing Mayweather's praises for beating JMM ? But atleast JMM has a resume at the weight knocking out Pacquiao and beating Alvarado convincingly Gamboa did nothing at Lightweight. Also JMM is far greater than Gamboa for crying out loud.
Theres a lot of nostalgia and protection of the history of boxing on these forums and I understand why No one has ever done what Crawford would do if he were to defeat Canelo (Not even SRL vs Hagler. Leonard had fought at 154 and won a title) Comparing cross era achievements can be tricky as the circumstances were so different. So comparing Henry Armstrongs world titles to Terence Crawfords or Sugar Ray Robinsons record to Terence Crawfords is kind of obtuse In the 30s and 40s boxing was newer and far less developed, leading to a greater chance for statistical outliers, just like every other sport. Obviously Babe Ruth would have a more difficult time hitting as many home runs as a different team now. Obviously Wilt Chamberlain would have a more difficult time scoring 100 points vs opposing teams in the modern game. For some reason in boxing people act like this isnt the case in boxing and knocking 100 cab drivers 3-4 times a month is some kind of astonishing achievement. Terence Crawford would absolutely be on top of the pound for pound mountain if he were to defeat Canelo Alvarez.
Armstrong is a great and should be celebrated. However if Crawford won the SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE by defeating CANELO ALVAREZ that would put him on top of Henry Armstrong for me. All subjective of course.
