This content is protected I have a fight on March 15, and I haven't been in training for 2-3 weeks. Do you guys have any advice on things I can work on? Im chasing my rival David Benavidez
Who wears a headgear and a cup to work a bag? Is this fight sanctioned? Even during bag work, work in something defensively minded. And, what's with the switching up? You thinkin' you Anthoney Jones or something? (1) Julian Jackson vs Anthony Jones - YouTube What's your height/weight and what country do you live in.
you need to keep your right hand high when jabbing to block the incoming left hook. Keep your chin tucked in a bit more. Try a basic combo: left jab, right hand, left hook, and then duck and roll. Good luck.
Practice posturing and feinting at the opponent. Keep in mind that most of a fight is when you are not punching. You will get tired quickly if you punch constantly. Make sure your stance is always ready to advance or retreat, don´t stand upright after punching unable to quickly move. Bend your knees. Keep your guarding hand up when punching, keep your chin down. Remember there is a good chance that the opponent will be punching when or right after you do, defense before, during, and after. Try not to spend all your energy early, let your opponent do that. Stay calm.
I have no comment until March 16th. I will almost certainly forget, so a little heads up would be appreciated.
You look like you’re pushing your right hand a bit? - @greynotsoold is that right? Ignore me if I’m wrong fella, also DB has probably been doing since he was 3, but I like your enthusiasm lol.
His feet are too much in line, and notice how often his right foot crosses behind his left foot. He can't turn on his right hand because of that and, for the same reason, he doesn't get much on his hook.
I hadn’t even looked at the feet, it all starts there and I was distracted by other things. @TheMadTitan not to be cruel unless your opponent is at the same level you are, I would most likely suggest you speak to your coach about your feet, I move like a newborn giraffe (so terribly) in the ring and I know nothing but I do think you might get hurt… keep your feet under you, don’t lean into punches twist. So soon you’ll be fighting this is your health, work on a couple things to get right you don’t have time for everything focus on your jab and being less combative, use your legs for distance, when you get into a shoot out you might get overwhelmed at this stage, learning to clinch would be better…. Drop the switch stance stuff, if you can’t do one right yet…
Actually, I like the headgear and cup for a fighter getting ready for his first bout — we would make beginners do part of their training with it. You have to learn to carry the equipment … the more you get adjusted to what it’s like in the ring, the better. Without giving a full critique, I’d like to see OP work in and out more with his footwork and add some head movement/bend knees to change the plane his head is on. My advice to OP: Keep your hands up, keep your chin down and keep your ass off the canvas.
The first thing you should do is instead of switching stance all the time, find your comfortable stance and stick with that. Practice one stance and become better at it. When you get more experience you can play switching if you want. Your footwork is way off, you need to move to the rythm. Never walk towards your opponent neither back out while walking When you back off, your backfoot moves first, going forward, its your front foot that moves first. When you throw punches, make sure it's straight punches and return to base (Back to guard). Try to avoid lunging, instead hit with the legs and body cause thats where your power comes from. At 3/4 distance of your punches, you snap your wrist downwards to add pop with your power. By the way, how did you do in your fight on March 15th
