Porter was never the top dog because he was in a division with Mayweather, Pacquiao, Thurman, Crawford, Spence etc

Light heavyweight isnt as strong as a division as welterweight usually

Welterweight is historicaly the deepest division in boxing and was when Porter was in it as well

The Jirov win was big for Toney no doubt. Probably his 2nd best win considering the context

Postol and Johnson is most likely a wash tbh. Johnson never did much at LHW.

Exactly Crawford has always fought the best possible opponents and has been ducked by many

True champion with a great skillset and resume

I respect the post but how is Crawford bigger than Spence or Madrimov?

The Canelo that fought Mayweather didnt have the boxing IQ at all. He fought the completely wrong fight vs Mayweather (he fought the right fight years later when he fought a much smaller Jermell Charlo as the great Roy Jones pointed out)

Yes Canelo has lost some of his tank and legs but I think now hes harder to beat than back then. Remember back then he wasnt near his prime either.

Considering the weight difference a win over Canelo now would be more significant than a win for Mayweather over Canelo in 2013

A lot of close wins was the wrong figure of speech by me

As far as Mayweathers wins over Canelo, Manny, and Oscar, they sound better than they are. They are all legends of the sport but none were in prime.

I think Spence outworks them and yes I do think he can hold up to Qaurteys power

I think that Spence would solve Starling with body shots and it would be an amazing fight

Starling lacked activity at times so I think hed win a decision

I think Spence beats Forest as well through pressure and body punching

All great matchups along with many of the others

Think Spence has gotten underrated since the Crawford fight (naturally it is gonna effect how people think of him as that is the last image weve seen) but he was a very good (not ATG) welterweight.

Think hes of similar caliber to those 3 along with some others

Obviously not Hearns, Leonard, Robinson tier

What puncher has Spence beaten that makes you think he could deal with Quartey's power ?

I remember Spence being shaken up a few times by single punches against fighters who are not noted as big punchers.

But I'm glad you've seen the light Joey and classed Spence as "very good" and that's what I was trying to tell you before. Spence is not a great but I would class him as very good I agree.

Porter also lost to Brook though for me he was a good Welterweight and that's all I can say really nothing more nothing less.

He was also inactive when he fought Crawford and had one foot out the door in regards to retirement so I don't rate the win super highly.

It was certainly Canelo's prime not quite his peak which I think was probably 2017-2021 or so.

I think Johnson is a better H2H fighter though than Postol even at Light Heavyweight. Even after the RJJ loss he fought Tarver and knocked him down and lost a very close split decision.

If you look at Johnson's record the only guy who beat him convincingly was RJJ all his other losses were very close decisions.

Johnson was a very talented fighter look at this KO below and this fight was at Light Heavyweight to win the title.

The best puncher that Spence faced and defeated was probably Danny Garcia. He never shown a bad chin to me (even vs Crawford. 1st KD was a flash knockdown and he took a lot of bombs and the ref stopped it in the 9th)

Were getting into semantics about great and very good. Spence was top 5 pound for pound at the time of the Crawford fight (although not at optimal condition) similar to how James Toney was a top 5 pound for pound fighter (not in optimal condition) when Roy Jones beat him and Diego Corales was a top 5 pound for pound fighter (not in optimal condition) when Floyd Mayweather Jr beat him

So by that logic they were very good but not great fighters as well

Porter lost to Brook back in 2013. He got a lot better after that as his career went on he improved greatly.
I think Porter peaked vs Spence (nearly won the fight on my card 6-6 but Spence dropped him)

Yes Porter may have had 1 foot out but stopping a very good world class Welterweight who had never been close to being stopped is a huge achievement which gets glossed over greatly by posters on here

Thats fair. Reggie Johnson was a very underrated fighter so I guess saying that he was better than Postol even at LHW makes sense
