Benevidez destroyed the narrative that he wins "based on size"

Benavidez boxing improved. An improved Margarito. Nothing more

 

Since the fight with the Ukrainian, it was clear that he had good boxing skills... he lacks punching power and needs to improve his cardio... he also needs to learn to fight backwards... and he would already be ready for Bivol or Beterviev... Benavjdez is talented and is a guy who likes to challenge himself... those kinds of people go far...

 

He’s an excellent fighter. Great general. Applies constant pressure but knows when to back off and let you burn up energy. Underrated defense. His pace is not one for old men.

 

He leaves himself wide open all the time...STILL. Morrell and his 11 fight career couldnt capitalize and he still managed s KD...not to mention Benevidez was badly hurt from a check hook in r3 or r4 but Morrell either didnt see it or didnt know how to go about capitalizing on a hurt fighter

 

Only been able to see the highlights unfortunately, but going from them he looks improved and closer to the complete package. This against his probably best opponent yet.

Eagerly looking forward to seeing him against either Bivol or Beterbiev. Canelo ducking him looks worse and worse for his legacy, and this comes from one of the few on this forum that likes Canelo.

 

Morell was just too green, He stepped up a little early for Benevidez and still acquitted himself quite well. If he would've came in with maybe 20 fights under his belt, it may have been a different story.

He is a proper fighter indeed.

 

Underrated defense but not great.

His opponent isnt exactly that great too.. let me wear my earmuffs, stand in front of Benavidez and get hit with the same shots..

Genius.

We need the Canelo fight though, regardless.

 

Benavidez was still 20 pounds heavier when the bell rang. (Not to mention an inch taller.)

Morrell gained 2 pounds after the weigh in. Benavidez gained 20. Benavidez had a cruiserweight fight 12 years ago.

Benavidez is the poster boy for weigh bullies. Just accept it and move on.

 

Morell was 177. Benavidez was 195.

 

I question his power at 175. He hit Morrell flush many times, but didn't seem to hurt him. Either Morrell has an iron chin, or Benavidez has been a weight bully and lacks the power we thought he had.

Benavidez does have good boxing skills, moves his head well and throws a variety of punches from different angles.

 

He has good skills and he's very busy. He certainly deserved the decision Saturday night. He was constantly throwing. You can't take rounds off against him. He won more of them.

And he has good power for his size.

But if there were weigh-ins the day of the fight, he'd have been a natural cruiserweight his entire career.

At 6'2" and 195 on fight night, he's bigger than many heavyweights of the past.
